Nest's been in the news a lot lately, with word that it's being folded into Google's hardware division closely followed by the announcement that its last remaining founder is leaving the company. Nest's in that position because of its great connected home products, and thanks to a new app update they stand to get even better.

If you have a Nest Cam IQ, you might have encountered an issue whereby you have multiple familiar face entries that it just doesn't understand are the same person. Thankfully, Nest has solved that problem in the latest update by allowing you to merge those duplicate entries together.

There are some changes to video and person detection, but probably the most important new feature is full-duplex audio. No more walkie-talkie-style conversations with people on the other end of the video feed.

Nest Cam IQ will get Google Assistant this winter

Last year, Nest released the Cam IQ, a 4K indoor security camera. The $300 price tag made it a tough sell for most people, even with facial detection and other advanced features, but at least it will become more useful soon. During Nest's event today, the company announced that the Nest Cam IQ will get Google Assistant in a future software update.

Remember the Nest Cam IQ that came out earlier this year? The new Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is pretty much that but, as the name suggests, for outdoor use. You get the same specs, including a 4K sensor with a 130-degree FoV and Night Vision, plus the same facial recognition tech, all in a more rugged outdoor-oriented package. You can preorder it now for $349, and it'll ship this November.
