Using beta software is more often than not a gamble. It's nice to be able to check out all the new features, but some things may be terribly broken. That's the case with Android Q's universal dark mode implementation. As early adopters noticed, there's no toggle to easily enable or disable it, meaning users were stuck with whatever they had chosen on Pie before updating (unless they used adb to change it). Google Photos was one of the most obvious victims of Q's dark mode. The app looked like a chimera of light and dark, but the latest update has now fixed most of it. Read More
Pixel 3 XL details have been leaking from Google like a sieve recently. Just earlier today, our Canadian friends at MobileSyrup were tipped off with a set of photos showing a phone which looks to be the Pixel 3 XL in all its exceptionally notched glory. This is also the first time we've spotted one in the expected black colorway in use, as the previous engineering sample leaked back in June was unable to boot. Read More
Motorola's latest cell phone efforts have been less than stellar, but their watches remain some of the best Android Wear devices around... if you can get over the flat tire look. Today DailySteals is offering the second-generation Moto 360 for as little as $149.99, an impressive half off the list price for the cheapest model. There are a couple of caveats, however: one, they're refurbished. Two, you can have any color you want, so long as you want black. Read More
If you didn't get in on those crazy $50 deals for the G Watch earlier this year... well, we can't give you that deal again. Sorry, but he who hesitates is lost. But Amazon subsidiary Woot has a deal nearly as good going on for the next week: the original black LG G Watch, refurbished, for $69.99. So, he who hesitates has only lost about twenty bucks in this example.
While this watch is refurbished, it comes with a 90 day warranty straight from LG, and thanks to Google's tight grip on Android Wear it already has access to all the latest software goodies. Read More
Were you upset that CyanogenMod changed its boot animation for CM12 (based on Lollipop) to a blinding white flash of branding brilliance? Then you really need to find better things to be upset about. Even so, it looks like the nightly builds released just a few days later have adjusted the boot animation once again, bringing it back to a more sober black. Here it is, for your viewing pleasure: Read More
The black leather Moto 360 is currently up on the U.S. Play Store, though it probably won't last long. After going out of stock pretty much immediately at launch several days ago, it is already listed as shipping September 22nd, a full two weeks from now. The gray leather variant remains out of stock.
Update #1 9/8/14 1:55pm PT: Aaaand it's gone.
Update #2 9/9/14 1:15pm PT: Back in stock. This time, it "leaves warehouse in 2 - 3 weeks."
Update #3 9/9/14 3:37pm PT: Sold out again.
The Moto 360 has been in high demand, though some early reviews indicate poor performance and battery life, especially with the ambient display setting turned on (we're talking having trouble getting through a single day without recharging). Read More
Samsung announced a couple days ago that the gold Galaxy S5 will come to all major US carriers by May 30th, but the phone has already popped up on AT&T's site. There it goes for $199.99 with a two-year contract, various monthly payments with an AT&T Next plan, or $649.99 outright. The name, Copper Gold, sounds like a currency stuck somewhere between a penny and something of actual value*, but it describes the color well.
The Galaxy S4 Mini is also now available with the carrier, and it's shipping in two shades. While we wouldn't blame any of you for expecting them to be black and white, this time we're actually looking at black and pink. Read More
Since officially announcing the OnePlus One late last month, OnePlus has found that people were far more interested in the 64GB version of its phone than the smaller, 16GB option. This has led the company to re-evaluate its priorities. Now instead of rushing to get the 16GB Silk White option out as early as possible, it is pushing production back in favor of getting the 64GB Sandstone Black model out sooner. With any luck, the device should now be available by the end of this month (instead of sometime in June, the company's previous goal).
This isn't all that surprising. Read More
Update: One commenter noticed that the new colors of the DROID MAXX have 16GB of storage, not 32GB like the original matte version. For shame, Verizon/Moto, especially since the MAXX has no microSD card slot. Thanks, Jason Stanton!
When Verizon launched the latest generation of Motorola DROID phones back in August, the long-lasting DROID MAXX was only offered in a matte black color. It seems a little belated, but as of today Verizon is selling the Moto flagship in two new color options: glossy red, and matte black with new silver trim on the speaker grille, Motorola badge, power button, and volume rocker. The Galaxy S4 is nearly a year old now, but that doesn't mean Samsung's done releasing new variations of it. Today the company has officially announced a new "Black Edition" of the flagship that comes with the plastic, faux-stitched back panel that first appeared with the debut of the Note 3.The new S4 model is joined by a variation of the S4 mini that looks the same, just smaller.
The new Galaxy S4 and S4 mini come with black power adapters, data cables, and headphones (as opposed to the usual white ones). They will also come preloaded with a set of eight wallpapers and a few new ringtones. Read More
