Samsung will cram bloatware apps from Verizon's Oath into its phones

You know what my $800 smartphone is missing? Sponsored content and ads that are accessible with a hardware button. No one has ever actually said that and meant it, but that's what Samsung owners could be getting very soon. Verizon's Oath, which includes Yahoo and AOL properties, has announced a deal with Samsung to integrate its content and "native ads" into Bixby Home and pre-load more bloatware apps. As if you didn't already have enough reason to disable Bixby.

[Continuously Updated] 2018 April Fools' Roundup: All the jokes from around the web

April Fools' day is almost upon us, but each year at least a few companies are unable to restrain themselves, pushing out their pranks early as the remainder dribble out over the day itself. Google's various divisions do some decent work each year—last year's Google Gnome was itpretty good, and the Maps team's 2014 Pokemon prank was memorable. OnePlus even has a history of pulling off a decent prank. But, there are a ton of individual companies and gags to follow.

It can be tough keeping track, so let us handle the work while you enjoy the jokes.

Samsung shows off 2018 Family Hub fridge with Bixby and SmartThings, and 146-inch 'The Wall' TV at CES

Samsung unveiled its first Family Hub fridge back in 2016, and the concept of a 'smart refrigerator' hasn't become any less ridiculous since then. Still, the company made a sequel last year, so people must be buying them. The third-generation model was unveiled at CES, along with an insane 146-inch TV that Samsung calls 'The Wall.'

Weekend poll: Do you use a voice assistant like Bixby, Alexa, or Google Assistant?

With CES about to swing into gear, and Google apparently gearing up for a personal assistant blitz at the event, we've been thinking pretty hard about how Google Assistant has integrated itself into our lives.

Ignoring a few small hardware snafus, Google's solution has become an indispensable tool for many of us. But, it isn't the only personal assistant game in town. Samsung's Bixby has a following of its own, and Apple's Siri is built into MacBooks and iOS devices. There's also always Amazon's Alexa elephant in the room. So, we're curious, which one do you prefer?

Samsung's Bixby-powered smart speaker reportedly arriving in first half of 2018

Bixby is Samsung's home-grown virtual assistant that debuted on the Galaxy S8. It's still far behind Google Assistant in terms of functionality and language support, but Samsung has mostly continued to stick with it (they finally allowed users to disable the button a few months ago). According to a new report from Bloomberg, Samsung is working on a Bixby-powered smart speaker, and it's coming in the first half of next year.

Bixby button can finally be completely disabled with latest update [APK Download]

The opinion that Samsung's Bixby voice assistant is useless is one that is pretty universal. We've seen an epic war between Samsung and developers who wanted to remap the button (seriously, here are more links), but even after Samsung "disabled" the button in the last battle, Bixby would still activate the screen when pressed. Now though, disabling it will render it virtually nonexistent (which we've all been waiting for).

Samsung announces Bixby 2.0 with third-party developer and smart home support

Samsung likes to have its own custom version of things as a differentiating feature. Android Pay? How about Samsung Pay? Play Store? Galaxy Apps. Assistant? S Voice... I mean, Bixby. Just six months after launching Bixby on the Galaxy S8, Samsung is announcing the next iteration. Bixby 2.0 will bring together the company's products under a single smart assistant banner, but details are a bit scarce right now.

[Update: Now in India] Samsung Bixby's voice commands are rolling to more than 200 countries

Samsung's controversially received assistant, Bixby, has rolled out its voice command features in Korea and the US, but if you've been just dying to try out in other countries, you're now in luck. Samsung says that the voice commands are available in 200+ countries worldwide including the UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, and more.

You will still be limited to speaking in US English and Korean — tough luck if you wanted to use it in other languages — and you will need to own a Galaxy S8 or S8+ to have Bixby in the first place, but once those requirements are met, you just have to press and hold the Bixby button to activate the feature.

Samsung will finally let you disable the Bixby button without a third-party app

Samsung launched Bixby on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus earlier this year, but the presence of a physical button on the phone for Bixby has rubbed some users the wrong way. There have been a few methods to block or redirect the Bixby button to other apps, but Samsung has insisted that the Bixby button is for Bixby. In a new update, you can finally disable the button, but you can't point it to another app.
