[Update: Formal Google announcement, Wear OS] France says 'bonjour' to Google Pay as support for first six banks arrives

Last week we got caught up with some of the latest banks to join the Google Pay family, seeing new payment options come online for users in Spain, Italy, and Japan. While that was fantastic, for as much as we love seeing Pay support fleshed out in nations like these, it's even better when it comes to an entirely new one. As fate would have it, that's exactly what's happening right now, as Google Pay comes to France.

[Update: Another 30] Google Pay brings on support for 50 more US banks

How many banks can you name off the top of your head? Half a dozen? Maybe you econ nerds can hit 20 without breaking a sweat. But as you start thinking beyond the big national and regional chains, wondering just how many banks there really could be across the US, that number takes off running and does not stop. Over the past few years we've seen Google recruit an ever-growing number of these banks for mobile payment support, and that momentum is not about to slow down now.

Google Pay international expansion continues in UAE, Germany, Australia, and Taiwan

So many times we hear readers complain about Google's focus being way too US-centered. Sure, the company started here and has a significant user base, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating when new products and services debut, only to be US exclusives. While that favoritism isn't going to vanish any time soon, little by little we see Google expand its offerings in nations abroad, and today we're checking in with the latest developments in the international world of Google Pay.

[Update: 13 more US banks] Google Pay adds support for 33 new US banks, four international

However many banks Google adds to its list of supported institutions, there are always more waiting. We've got quite a few of them here in the 'States (I think they're reproducing somehow), but a few previously unincluded international banks also made the cut in the last week or so, adding 27 more in total — 23 in the US and four in other countries.

Expanded Google Pay bank support arrives for Australia and Japan

Little by little, Google's recruiting the world's financial institutions to support its Google Pay ecosystem. At least, we regularly see dozens upon dozens of US banks line up to work with Google Pay, but sometimes international compatibility is harder to come by. Earlier this month we spotted a few such additions, with new Pay banks popping up in Poland, Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia, and now we've got a bunch more to share, with even more Australian banks joining the gang, as well as new options landing for Japan.

[Update: Another 7 more] Google Pay adds support for 62 banks in the US

Google often adds support for more financial institutions on its mobile payments platform. In the US, the additions are very frequent and don't show any sign of slowing down. 111 banks joined last time, and now, a mere eight days later, we have 30 more. We shall reach 100% USA penetration one day, but until then, you'll have to check the list.

[Update: And one more brings us to 65] Google Pay adds support for 64 new US banks and PayPal Mastercard

It's kind of crazy how Google Pay has been so consistently adding support for banks and credit unions in such large numbers for the past couple of years. Most recently, a whopping 171 banks/credit unions were added. Now, an additional 64 have joined the roster, and PayPal's Mastercard is now supported.

Google Pay just keeps building support. Its latest batch of 171 (yes, one hundred and seventy-one) new US institutions includes some real heavy-hitters like the University of Michigan Credit Union, Merchants Bank of Indiana, and nine—count 'em, nine—miscellaneous First National Banks.
