Google confirms autofocus not working in ARCore for several LG phones

Thanks to its ARCore SDK, Google made developing augmented reality applications more accessible and streamlined. To guarantee a consistent experience across devices, the Californian giant has put a certification process in place, through which it ensures the camera, motion sensors, and CPU perform as expected. Among the list of officially supported handsets are the LG G7, V30, V35, and V40 series, which offer the same motion tracking as other certified products. Nevertheless, Google acknowledged autofocus is not correctly working on these phones for the time being, although that shouldn't alter the end user's experience.

Possible Google phone codenames Bonito and Sargo pop up in latest ARCore update [APK Teardown]

ARCore updates generally just bring support to a set of both old and new Android devices, but every once in a while we're treated to something pretty unexpected. In the latest version, new profiles can be found for one, or maybe even two currently unreleased Google devices. The first of these devices bares the Bonito name, originally expected to be a mid-range Pixel phone. There's also a brand new fish-themed codename that may represent an entirely new device: Sargo.

Google's ARCore additions for October include the Pixel 3, LG V40, and more

Augmented Reality may not yet be the game-changer some of its proponents would hope it to be, but little by little it's been coming into its own. AR's been in the spotlight this month thanks to the launch of the Pixel 3 and Google's re-branding of its AR Stickers app as Playground, but that's just the half of it — we've also seen a number of new devices join the list of official AR Core-supporting hardware.

Playground 2.0, Marvel Studios Avengers pack, and more Playmojis can be installed on older Pixels [APK Download]

The evolution of AR Stickers, Playground, was announced during the Pixel 3 event, and along with it came four new Playmoji packs for Weather, Signs, Sports, and Pets, with two more promised for Marvel and Childish Gambino. However, these were all supposed to be exclusive for the Pixel 3. But as we have learned over the years, the word "exclusive" might be very accurate sometimes, but could be circumvented with a simple APK file in others. That's the case here.

ARCore v1.5 adds support for OnePlus 6T, ROG Phone, Razer Phone, Xperia X, and many more [APK Teardown]

Google's ARCore team just rolled out a new update that appears to bring the augmented reality framework to several more phones and tablets. Some hot new (and upcoming) devices are on the list, like the Galaxy Note9, OnePlus 6T, and ROG Phone. These are also joined by some older models like the Sony Xperia X.

[Update: Mate 20 Lite and Pocophone F1, too] ARCore adds support for Galaxy Note9 and Tab S4, Xperia XZ2 line, and Nokia 6.1 Plus

ARCore's list of supported devices was just updated earlier this month, but with the introductions of so many new Android devices, a second revision for the month of August was required. Samsung's latest and greatest, the Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy Tab S4, are present, as are all three members of the Xperia XZ2 line and the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Update Notes for the Google app, Google Pay, Google Fit, ARCore, and Lens (August 25, 2018)

Every week, I examine somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred app updates while looking for changes. The most interesting things turn into APK Teardowns or Download posts. Many of the remaining updates are unremarkable, amounting to a few bug fixes, routine updates to libraries, or even just pixel-level adjustments to layouts and images. However, there are usually a few updates that land somewhere in between. I don't want to spam readers with dozens of short posts, but I hate to ignore things that people might want to know about, so I'm going to wrap up the leftovers for a little weekend reading and call it Update Notes.

ARCore v1.4 adds support for 10 more devices, gets several improvements

We published a teardown of ARCore v1.4 a few days ago in which we discovered a few new supported devices, but there wasn't a full list and we didn't know what else the new version brought. But now, Google's page of supported ARCore devices has been updated, and there's a new changelog on the Play Store listing.

22 new and notable augmented reality apps and games from the last four months (3/24/18 - 7/30/18)

There was a huge uptick of augmented reality apps and games released on the Play Store back in March that was a result of ARCore's expanded device support. AP covered both the games and apps published at the time, but I wanted to keep track of further releases just to see if we could keep these AR roundups going. It may have taken four months, but I finally have a solid AR roundup for all of our readers. This time around, instead of writing two separate lists, I have combined both apps and games into one article. So without further ado, here are the best new AR apps and games released in the last four months.
