Reddit News Updated To Version 6, Adds Sliding User Interface And Multiple Account Support

There are a lot of Reddit users in the Android Police audience, and more than a few on the editorial team, so we like to highlight a quality Reddit browser when it comes along. And Reddit News certainly fits the bill: it's been one of the most consistently solid options for Android smartphones (and just lately, tablets) for some time. The latest update adds the oh-so-nice feature of sliding panels in the Holo interface, as well as support for multiple Reddit accounts at the same time.

Official Tumblr App Finally Updated With Tablet Support... Kind Of

Have you heard the news? The official Tumblr app finally supports tablets! But only sort of. Still, technically, you can install the app on your tablet. But be prepared: it only works in portrait mode. You know what that means, right? Yep - it's still going to suck on your 10" slate. Look at the bright side, though: it looks great on 7" tablets!

But really, there isn't much different between the phone app and the "tablet-optimized" version.

Popular Twitter Client 'Plume' Updated With Support For Android 4.2 Lockscreen Widgets

Since Android 4.2 introduced native lockscreen widgets, we've seen several devs already push out updates to their apps with support for the feature. The latest to do so is LevelUp Studio, which updated its Twitter client Plume. This is actually my personal favorite when it comes to Twitter clients on Android, especially for tablets. So I was pretty glad to see the 4.2 lockscreen widget show up.

The update also brings a few other fixes and enhancements to the app:

- add a lockscreen widget on Android 4.2
- fix the widget context on Android 4.2
- fix the display of the DM recipient
- fix Facebook timeline not updating in some case
- fix unread list item appearing multiple times
- improve the picture cache coherence
- make Halloween notification sound available all the time

Plume is, of course, a free app in the Play Store, though there's also a $5 premium version available for those who prefer an ad-free experience.

Other than that, this new version also adds the ability to keep thumbs up, last added, and free/purchased music locally on the device, automatic playlist creation based on your favorite tracks, and other improvements.

Flipboard Updated To Version 1.9.7, Brings Audio To Your Newsfeeds

Flipboard was one of the most hotly anticipated app launches on Android this last year. This super-pretty news reader first debuted on the iPad, where it turned a lot of heads before arriving on Android. This most recent update adds audio streams to Flipboard's magazine-like UI.

For those that aren't aware, Flipboard is a news reader that plugs into your various social accounts to find content. This part isn't terribly special, but by combining the news stories it finds in your social feeds with categories you subscribe to, the app builds a kind of digital magazine out of your news.

Samsung Updates Its TecTile App To v3.0, Brings A Host Of New NFC-Writing Capabilities

I love NFC. In fact, I use it every single day and can't imagine going back to life without it. Since I'm running CyanogenMod 10 on both my tablet and phone, I take full advantage of the profiles feature, which allows custom settings for various situations like work, home, night, and more, each of which can be activated (and de-activated) via NFC.

Beginning now, Samsung owners with NFC-capable phones can utilize a very similar feature with the newly updated TecTile app.

After installing the Subsonic app, you have to pick up the server software for the computer where all your media is stored. Sadly, this software will cost you $15, but there is a free trial.
