K-9 Mail Receives First Significant Update In 9 Months - Improved Interface, Altered Widget, Bug Fixes, And More

K-9 Mail is what you get when you take the default Android email client and make it, erm, better. It made the jump this week to version 4.4 and now sports a more holo-themed user interface, rich notifications for Android 4.1+ devices, an altered unread widget, and a whole bucket-load of nitpicky features that may or may not make your day, depending on how anal you are about how you like your email.

Gmail App Updated To 4.5.2, Brings Delete Button Back By Default (And Popular Demand)

There's nothing as satisfying as permanently deleting that annoying email. Well, that's not true, there are a lot of things more satisfying than that, like hugging your children, eating a good steak, and landing a headshot on that jerk who's been camping the spawn. But if you've been craving that small, petty, satisfying feeling of quickly deleting hundreds of emails, Google's got your back. The 4.5.2 version of the Gmail app makes the Delete button the default setting after you long-press a message (in the last major revision it was previously set to Archive).

Imgur App Drops Ads "By Popular Demand" After Only One Day, Adds New Widget

It's important to be able to admit when you're wrong. Imgur, everyone's favorite image hosting site and backbone of Reddit, took its mobile app out of beta on Monday. The developers removed the ads late yesterday after getting a piece of everyone's mind.

So, now the app is back to it's ad-free state, but that isn't the entirety of the update. The widget has been revamped and a few crashes sorted out.

Pebble Android App Updated To 1.8.2 With Support For Google Hangouts Notifications

Pebble smartwatch owners have been without a reliable way to receive notifications for Google instant messages since Hangouts was launched at Google I/O, at least if they rely on first-party solutions. Today's update to the official Pebble app changes that, with native support for the Hangouts app for both messages and video Hangout requests. If you've remained faithful to the older Google Talk app, it's still supported as well.

Other changes are sparse: the official changelog mentions only the standard stability tweaks and some developer-side improvements.

Spotify Updates its App To (Finally) Support Notification Controls

While Spotify has likely seen a fairly dramatic drop in subscribers since the launch of Play Music All Access, the all-you-can-eat streaming audio service hasn't quite given up on its Android users just yet. The last significant update finally brought landscape support (which, honestly, should've been baked in from the beginning), and today's version bump brings another feature long missed by Android users: notification controls for Jelly Bean devices (4.1+).

That's actually the icing on the cake for many users – as far as the app is concerned, it's essentially on par with Play Music at this point (some may even prefer it).

Imgur Beta App Updated To 0.1.11 With Not-Really-Holo User Interface, Still Has A Long Way To Go [Update]

Imgur has become one of the standard Internet destinations for quick and dirty photo sharing, but its official Android app leaves a lot to be desired - though to be fair, it's still in beta. The latest update adds a much-needed Holo interface... sort of. The UI has definitely been improved over previous versions, and according to the changelog, it's Holo. While it's clear that the designers were trying for a more standardized app, the guidelines have been followed in some places and not others.

Google+ Update Coming Later Today, Brings Enhanced Notifications, New Menu, And More [Update: APK]

Google has been adding a lot of new features and design tweaks to the G+ app as of late, and today an update will be rolling out that puts focus on the way it handles notifications service-wide. Post-update, when you dismiss a notification – which also happens to have a new bell icon – on one platform, it will dismiss said notification globally, regardless of whether the action is performed on mobile or the web.

YouTube App Updated To 4.5.17 With Slide-Out Navigation Menu And Video Suggestion Overlays

Google is slowly adding the new slide-out navigation menu to all of its major Android apps, and today it's YouTube's turn. The latest incremental update to the official video app doesn't add a whole lot more than that, but what's there is handy: the menu that used to be available via the "app button" in the upper-left corner only on the homescreen is now enabled on all standard UI screens with a quick swipe to the left, just like in the shiny new version of Gmail.
