As yesterday's teaser video implied, it seems that we can expect Motorola's much-anticipated Android tablet at CES. Motorola has launched a small teaser site to generate media buzz about the launch, with a countdown that expires at 4:15 p.m. on January 5th, 2011. You can also sign up to receive e-mail notifications of any news on the announcement.
Motorola's tablet will be sporting a Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip, and will presumably be the first consumer device to run Honeycomb, a version of Android tailored for tablet use. Read More
Android developers take note: Eclipse with the Android Development Tools (ADT) is no longer the only player in town when it comes to developing Android applications. JetBrains, the maker of IntelliJ IDEA, which was open sourced about a year ago, today released version 10 of their IDE, which, among other improvements, includes support for Android in the free Community Edition. All versions of the Android SDK are supported, including the recently released Gingerbread. Read More
The moment we've been waiting for so many months - it's finally here! I can hardly contain my excitement as I'm writing this, but both Gingerbread and the Samsung Nexus S were officially announced 30 minutes ago. As expected, the new OS bears the version number 2.3 and brings updates to the SDK and the NDK as well SDK tools and the Eclipse ADT plugin.
As expected, a lot of the OS improvements are under-the-hood, which will result in better gaming, responsiveness, and overall Android experience. Read More
After an agonizing wait, we now know Verizon's plans for the Tab, right from the source itself. The tablet will be available three weeks from now, on the 11th of November, and the full retail price is to be $599.99 - although VZW has not disclosed any on-contract price. An optional $20/mo 1 GB tariff is alluded to but it is unclear whether or not this will bring with it a discount to the Tab's sticker price. Read More
Just in time for the discontinuation of the original myTouch, the rumored myTouch HD has been made official, albeit with a slight name change (HD has been dropped). And the device is rocking some pretty impressive specs, which may just be enough to draw people away from the G2:
- Next generation 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- 5 megapixel camera with 720p capture
- Front facing camera for video calling over Wi-Fi and 3G
- 3.8" WVGA screen
- Genius Button
- Android 2.2 (possibly with Espresso UI)
- HSPA+ capabilities
Unfortunately, despite the awesome specs we have available, there's no word on pricing, and the only information we have on a release date is "in time for the holidays." Read More
Rain, shine, or literally freakin' tornado in the part of the country which isn’t supposed to have such weather, Android Police is there. As promised, I attended the press event thrown by Samsung on Thursday, during which they were to announce their "latest Android-powered device" as well as their new Media Hub service.
While the fact that Samsung was to announce a tablet device was officially a secret, we all pretty much knew the mystery device was going to be the Galaxy Tab. Read More
Let's face it: browsing the Android Market on your desktop currently sucks. For one thing, there aren't any categories - just "Top Free" and "Top Paid." For another, there's no search!
On your phone, the situation isn't much better - you can search, which is good if you know what you're looking for in advance but you still can't filter those results. And discovering new apps is just downright horrible.
This is where sites like AppBrain come in. Read More
In exactly a week, on June 23rd, the 4 giants of the Android world - Motorola, Verizon, Google, and Adobe are set to announce something really great, dubbed "the next generation of Droid" at a special invitation-only press event in New York.
We can only guess what the event will touch on - surely, Droid X and Droid 2 are at the top of the list.
However, noting the presence of Adobe, it makes us wonder whether something much-much bigger is coming, i.e. Read More

The mobile sphere is abuzz with the rumors of a possible HTC Supersonic announcement tomorrow, all caused by a tiny note Sprint posted in the member area on Sprint.com. Here is a screenshot (courtesy of Sprint Forums):
According to other users who have talked to various Sprint customer service reps, Supersonic is indeed "coming very very soon", which seems to only confirm the rumor. Of course, nothing is 100% until we tune into the announcement… the time of which is currently unknown. Read More
