There’s been a growing trend of eliminating wires in recent years, but since most gadgets house rechargeable batteries, it’s been difficult to completely get rid of them. Wireless charging is picking up pace but it’s not as practical a solution, especially when we consider a category like headphones. What if there was another way around it, though? That’s the epiphany that probably led to the creation of the Los Angeles headphones by Swedish audio company Urbanista. These headphones integrate the company’s “Powefoyle” solar cells in the headband so that they can generate energy from light, be it from the sun or artificial lighting. The claim: virtually infinite playtime.

Truly wireless headphones are everywhere nowadays, but finding an affordable pair with all the bells and whistles is no easy feat for Android folks. The iPhone faithful can always just pick up some AirPods and pay the Apple tax. Fortunately, Mobvoi has released an extremely affordable alternative that feels like the real thing, and they’re only missing some of the more advanced functionality. At only $60, you really can’t beat the Mobvoi Earbuds ANC on price, particularly if you want active noise-canceling included. Unfortunately, some of its more glaring shortcomings make the low price that much more understandable.

Bose noise-canceling headphones have helped millions fly in peace, but it’s no longer the only company offering high-quality sound isolation. Realizing that the four-year-old QC35 II didn’t quite stand its ground against newer, better wireless headphones, the company recently refreshed the lineup with the QC45s. While they’re very similar to their predecessor, especially from a design standpoint, they boast much-needed improvements like Bluetooth multipoint, a Type-C port, and beam-forming mics for better call quality.

Sony tends to grab headlines with the WF and WH headphone series, at the top of the game for active noise cancellation earbuds and around-the-ear cans, respectively. Today it's announcing two new ones: the WF-C500 true wireless earbuds and the WH-XB910N over-ear headphones.The WF-C500 buds forego active noise cancellation to allow a design that's a little smaller, a little cheaper, and a little more sporty. Sony gave them IPX4 water resistance to deter a few splashes of sweat, plus compatibility with both Google Assistant and Siri. They're quote at an impressive 10 hours of playback time on their own, but due to its extremely compact size, the charging case gets only one recharge for a tidal playback time of 20 hours.

The Bose QC35 headphones have been one of the most popular ones on the market for a while. Then came the Sony WH-1000XM3 and WH-1000XM4, which were considered by many to be superior, and inevitably dethroned Bose when it came to ANC headphones. Bose did release a newer product, the NC 700, which haven't been nearly as popular as the QC35. This is probably due to their lack of convenience, as they can't be folded, but also their relatively high price.

What you get instead is boosted bass and a long battery life, 9 hours before you have to return them to the case. They're on sale for just $98 for the baby blue version ($100 off the retail price!) or $118 for the black or red options. ANC headphones can get pricey, but if you don't need the best of the best, there are some good bargains available. Case in point: the Razer Opus. Already fairly priced at their normal $200, you can cop a pair for $60 off right now at Amazon.In my review, I found the Opus's sound quality and noise canceling weren't quite up to snuff versus industry leaders like Sony and Bose, but for the price, they got close enough. That's extra true at a discounted $140. Battery life is very strong, too, at 25 hours per charge with ANC on.
