The default gallery app on some Alcatel phones has been replaced with spamware, and users are angry

Like most Android phone manufacturers, Alcatel has uploaded many of its phones' apps to the Play Store. This allows the company to update various system apps without sending out a full Android upgrade. Some time in mid-November, Alcatel's gallery app received such an update - a very bad update, if reviews from owners of Alcatel phones are any indicator.

TCL previews the new Alcatel series 1, 3, and 5

TCL briefly showed off its new line of Alcatel devices at CES. Simply named the 1-, 3-, and 5-series, each product line constitutes a portfolio that brings fingerprint sensors, 18:9 displays, and "flagship design" to devices that hit three distinct price points.

New images of Alcatel's leaked top-tier 2018 lineup have appeared

Smartphone leaks are inevitable, no matter who you are. But they usually happen pretty close to a device's launch date, and they're usually only specific to a single product. Last month, much to Alcatel's dismay, serial leaker Evan Blass shared an image of not one but six upcoming Alcatel phones. Now, Blass has shared higher-resolution renders of those same devices.

[Deal Alert] Alcatel Idol 5S on sale for $217.19 ($62.80 off) via Amazon

TCL is busy building phones for Blackberry these days, but it's not giving up on the Alcatel brand. The Idol 5S is a much more compelling phone than the very overpriced Idol 4S was, and there's a cheaper Amazon Prime edition if you don't mind some ads. However, the ad-free Idol 5S is on sale today for almost the same price. It's more than $60 off at $217.19, and the Prime version is $200.

The Nokia 6, Alcatel Idol 5S, A50, and A30 Plus are all available on Amazon today

New unlocked phones pop up on Amazon Prime from time to time, and sometimes they're even important enough to warrant a post. Today is special, though. There's not one, not two, but four new unlocked phones available on Amazon with Prime-exclusive variants: the Nokia 6, Alcatel Idol 5S, A30 Plus, and A50 (left to right above). They're all priced competitively, and you can save some cash if you don't mind ads.

A sight for four eyes: Alcatel announces a phone with four cameras

You know what's better than three cameras on a phone? That's right, four cameras on a phone. That seems to be the logic behind Alcatel's just-announced Flash smartphone, and — at least on paper — it's hard to argue with the math.

The new smartphone is the result of what was probably an inevitable match-up between a device with two rear-facing cameras and one with two front-facing cameras (remember the LG V10?), making it the first in the world to sport four lenses. The two cameras on the rear each house a 13MP sensor, while the two on the front comprise a 8MP+5MP combo.

Moto G5 Plus and Alcatel A30 join Amazon's ad-toting Prime Exclusive line for $184.99 and $59.99, respectively

In late June of last year, Amazon introduced its Prime Exclusive program, which offered unlocked phones to Prime members at a discount in exchange for a few Amazon apps and ads on them. It was a rather intriguing concept, and it's proven to be a success. David even used a BLU R1 HD in $60 Prime Exclusive guise for a month to see how a smartphone that cheap would fare. Now, Amazon is releasing another $60 Prime Exclusive phone in the form of the Alcatel A30, as well as the not-$60 Moto G5 Plus.

BlackBerry Mercury announced as the KEYone, coming in early Q2 for $549 unlocked

BlackBerry has forged a partnership with TCL to push its Android hardware forward. We've seen a few phones come out of this association so far, but they've been recycled Alcatel designs. The KEYone is all new and all BlackBerry. This phone was pre-announced as the Mercury, but now it's official and coming to the US and Canada in "early Q2" and elsewhere shortly thereafter.

BlackBerry signs deal making TCL (owner of Alcatel brand) its exclusive global hardware manufacturer

BlackBerry made big news when it finally decided to embrace Android and released the Priv. However, that would end up being the only Android phone Blackberry itself would ever make. It has sold two others since then, both re-branded Alcatel phones manufactured by TCL. Now, BlackBerry has decided to make TCL its exclusive manufacturing partner across most of the globe.
