[Update: Now available] Verizon will start selling the LG V50 ThinQ on June 20

The LG V50 ThinQ 5G has endured a stop-and-go release schedule. In the midst of growing pains with South Korea's next-gen cellular grid, the company pushed its original home market launch date of April 19 by nearly a month. Sprint, the U.S. carrier that claimed the early lead on the device, started sales on May 31. We knew that Verizon would also take up the V50 this "summer," but it wasn't until now that we learned it would be this week — on the last day of spring.

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile clean up with big 5G spectrum acquisitions in latest FCC auctions

The rise of 5G is exciting, but taking full advantage of its potential is going to require carriers to expand their coverage into new parts of the RF spectrum. The FCC has been auctioning off the rights to some of these frequencies and has just completed the process for the 24GHz band while also announcing the winners of its 28GHz band auction. The $26 billion Sprint and T-Mobile merger has been through a regulatory rollercoaster in the past several months. The pair had thought they could push through the transaction while preserving all of their spectrum and wireless service brands — but even with favorable political conditions, this didn't prove to be the case. This past week, we learned that the two have promised the FCC that they would sell prepaid carrier Boost Mobile and that the Department of Justice would require the two to divest enough spectrum to create a tenable "fourth carrier" replacement. Now, according to Reuters, Amazon has come into the dealer's circle with its offers.

Sprint's 5G network is here, covering millions of people AT&T and Verizon can't

Sprint has launched its mobile 5G service in four cities — but unlike the short-range millimeter wave networks AT&T and Verizon have already turned on, this is the nation's first taste of 5G on mid-band spectrum in its coveted 2.5GHz band. All told, it covers more than 1,100 square miles and a population of nearly 3.6 million people.

Most of the news that comes out of Computex each year doesn't really apply to Android, but today MediaTek has formally revealed a new high-end chipset for phones with a serious 5G twist: The new (apparently unnamed) 7nm SoC is the first to be announced with an integrated 5G modem.
