Google Fit hits its 100 million installs achievement after 7 years

Now don't do anything stupid while integrating the Fitbit app with your services, Google

Not too long ago, it looked like Google completely lost interest in its aptly named fitness tracking app Fit. But the company proved its renewed commitment with a full relaunch back in 2018, bringing Fit's design language in line with its other applications. Some features got lost during the transition, but Google has since worked hard to bring those back, along with including new capabilities and options. And these efforts seem to have paid off. Fit is celebrating the 100-million-downloads milestone on the Play Store just about two years after reaching 50 million.

Any time an application hits 100 million installs on the Play Store, it's worth taking note. From podcast players to streaming services, it's a sign that an app has truly cemented its legacy on Android. It's not often that three apps reach this milestone all at once, but that's exactly what has happened today. PlayStation, myAT&T, and Moto Photo Editor have all earned their respective places in the Play Store hall of fame.

When it comes to listening to podcasts in 2021, the options are limitless. From dedicated software like Pocket Casts or Podcast Addict to Spotify's endless pursuit to make you listen to its exclusives (whether by accident or by force), you probably have three different methods for listening to podcasts on your phone right now. Placed alongside every other app fighting for your attention is Google Podcasts, the free and feature-limited experience built to sync your library between Android, smart speakers, and any web-connected device. Less than five months after hitting 50 million installs, the app has hit a new milestone: 100 million installs since its launch in 2018.

There's no stopping the house of mouse

Disney+ launched in mid-November 2019 to throngs of eager fans — shortly before getting crushed under the weight of so many people trying to stream the first two episodes of The Mandalorian all at once. Despite the usual array of growing pains, Disney has developed a wildly successful streaming service with an incredible catalog of movies and series. It's so popular that the Disney+ app has now crossed 100 million downloads on the Play Store, only 16 months after it launched.

YouTube Studio hits 100 million Play Store installs

There must be a lot of laser-focused YouTube creators out there

The YouTube Studio app is the latest to reach the 100-million Play Store install milestone. Given that YouTube Studio was built for creators who want to check on their YouTube channels while on the move, it seems that there are a lot of dedicated creators on the platform.

Google Assistant's redundant standalone app reaches 100 million installs on Android

The Assistant is baked into the Google app, this is just a shortcut

Some of us are old enough to remember that Google Assistant first showed up in Allo before launching exclusively on the first-gen Pixels in October 2016. You may also recall that after spreading to more devices, Assistant got its very own "app" on the Play Store in October 2017. Similarly to the Google Podcasts app, it's just a shortcut to the Assistant, the functionality of which remains part of the main Google app. Given the non-essential nature of the app, you'll forgive us for being surprised to see it reach 100 million installs on the Play Store.

Google video chatroom app Meet has notched its 100-millionth download after 3 years on the market, doubling its install count in just 50 days.

Android Auto recently passed 500 million installs on the Play Store, possibly thanks to its inclusion on most phones shipping with Android 10, and now two more Google-made applications have passed significant milestones.

We've only reported Google Go's 10 million download numbers last September, and today, the app has reached another milestone: it now boasts 100 million installs on the Play Store. Since it's pre-installed on all Android Go phones, this might indicate that Android Go is quite a successful endeavor for Google, as this would suggest that the amount of newly activated Go devices skyrocketed over the past half year.

Google's applications frequently rack up a ton of downloads, and another has joined the 100 million club. The Google Home app, Google's one-stop destination for all things smart home, recently hit the nine-figure milestone.

Snapseed is one of the best photo editors available for Android, especially considering it's completely free. A year and a half after the app surpassed 50 million downloads on the Play Store, the app has now achieved over 100 million installations, according to its Play Store listing.

Of all the apps we keep an eye on here at Android Police, YouTube annoys us the most because of its endless stream of server-side tests. We've always wished the app had a beta channel on the Play Store and that those tests would be accomplished through it. Well, at least the first part of that equation is now coming true.

PLAYERUNKNOWN'S Battlegrounds, or PUBG for short, is largely responsible for starting the current trend of Battle Royale games. It may have lessened in popularity following the launch of Fortnite and other similar games, but it still has a respectable following. In fact, it just passed 100 million downloads on the Play Store.

If you're anything like me, you probably have an unending list of books that you want to read but never actually get around to because you just don't have the time or the patience. Audiobooks are a great way to take back some of the time that's spent on a commute or on the treadmill, so it's no surprise that Amazon-owned Audible is so popular. So popular, in fact, that it has now crossed 100 million downloads on the Play Store.

Super Mario Run arrived on the Play Store nearly a year ago, after a brief exclusivity period on iOS. It quickly became a hit, and gained a spot on our best Android games of 2017 list. Now it has passed 100 million installs on the Play Store.

Soccer (or to non-Americans, football) is one of the most popular sports in the world. As a result, the FIFA video game series has had tremendous success on all sorts of gaming platforms, including Android. Proving this, FIFA Soccer has just hit an incredible 100 million downloads on the Play Store.

Many who've used Facebook's main or messaging apps over the years will be acutely aware of how resource and data-hungry they can be. Messenger Lite was a welcome addition when it was released on the Play Store back in October 2016, as it promised to solve both of those issues. The only problem at the time was that it was only launched in emerging markets.

Samsung has slimmed down the number of its apps in recent devices, but there are still a couple that come preinstalled. Its email app, appropriately named Samsung Email, is one of those. Samsung Email has just passed 100 million downloads, which is nothing short of a tremendous number.

SuperSU is an app that any rooted user will know, even if you don't use it. I have fond memories of it from my days rooting and ROMing every device I could get my hands on, and it would appear that I'm not the only person who feels this way — SuperSU just hit the impressive 100 million downloads mark.

It's hard to truly grasp what that "100 million" badge on the Play Store means. Once the figure is condensed into a simple little badge, it loses a lot of its dramatic effect. But take this into account: 100,000,000 is roughly three times Canada's entire population. That's damn impressive.
