YouTube TV reaches 10 million downloads on the Play Store, but probably doesn't have that many subscribers
The cord-cutting service is gaining momentum
It's unlikely that its recent Roku controversy has contributed much to this, but YouTube TV has just reached the 10 million downloads milestone on the Google Play Store. While this is nowhere close to the success some other Google apps have achieved, it's important to note that YouTube TV isn't pre-installed on Android devices and that it's only available in the US.
There is no denying that Amazon's Echo devices and Alexa voice assistant are a huge success at this point. What started out as a weird little cylinder you can command to play music and ask a few questions has now become an entire line-up of devices, an ecosystem that has engendered many integrations from thousands of companies worldwide, and has kickstarted an entire product category and tech section that was nearly non-existent before it.
It's a good milestone day for Android's side-projects and apps. Earlier we reported that the Android Wear app had reached 10 million downloads on the Play Store and now we're seeing the same number for the Android Auto app.
Android Wear has been out for several years now, though it can't be considered a commercial success. After all that time, the companion app has just reached 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store. That being said, that figure doesn't allow us to draw any conclusions about sales figures.

It can take quite a while for an app to reach a significant milestone. That is, if your name isn't Nintendo. The company's new Animal Crossing game slipped out a day early back on November 21st, and now, in just 23 days, it's garnered over 10 million installs on the Play Store. That's a huge number.
The response to Google Allo has been... cold, to put it gently. For every user who appreciates the clean break Google made with its past messaging apps and the mobile-first approach it took, there are dozens if not hundreds of users who are vocal about every single feature that Allo is missing and that needs to be implemented before the app is viable as a messenger for them.
