Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus has already launched the flagship OnePlus 10 Pro, mid-range 10T, and budget 10R models for 2022, but that means the OnePlus 9 series from late last year are now available for attractive discounted prices this Black Friday. Make no mistake, these phones may be close to a year old, but they are no slouches, adequately equipped to handle the most intensive workloads you may throw at them. This makes both phones a great value proposition if you’re looking for flagship-tier specifications on a tight budget.

Paranoid Android is kicking into high gear its Android 13 push with heaps of devices getting into pre-release builds of what it calls Topaz. The dev team fired the starting pistol over the weekend with an alpha for the Nothing Phone 1. But since then, it's been betas all the way for several OnePlus and Pixel phones.

Amazon Android Days features big discounts on the entire OnePlus lineup

If you're dead set on a OnePlus phone, now's the time to buy

As part of Amazon’s Android Days event, a 48-hour flash sale dedicated to Android phones and accessories, most of the OnePlus phone lineup is currently discounted. OnePlus phones, especially the budget models, are usually well worth the normal asking price, and with extra discounts like this one, they become impossible-to-ignore deals that are just looking to make all your tech geek friends jealous.

In the US, OnePlus smartphones are not in the same league of the best Android phones as Google's Pixel lineup or Samsung's Galaxy S series. But they offer excellent value for money, and if you are on a tight budget, OnePlus offerings can be hard to ignore. For Prime Day, Amazon is discounting the OnePlus 9 series to their lowest-ever price, making them an irresistible deal to miss. Thanks to the discount, you can get last year's OnePlus 9 for $500—down from $730.

OnePlus 9 series March update promises a much-improved photography experience

Now rolling out in Europe and North America

OnePlus rubbed some in its enthusiastic user base the wrong way with its 2021 ColorOS merger announcement. A buggy initial rollout only further soured matters afterward, but efforts have been put into fixing reported issues ever since. In the name of taking care of one of those issues, the company released a bug-fixing update last week for the OnePlus 9 series. While the initial rollout skipped the US due to “country-related limitations,” another release is correcting that.

The OnePlus 9 series is getting a new bug-fixing update, but not in the US

Blame 'specific country-related limitations' for this

OnePlus took a fair bit of time rolling out the Android 12 update for the OnePlus 9 series as it was in the process of merging its code base with Oppo's ColorOS. Unsurprisingly, the initial release was a buggy mess that was eventually pulled following user complaints. Since then, the company has released a few updates to fix the reported issues. Now, it is rolling out another new software build for its 2021 flagship phones to squash the lingering bugs — but it's not coming to the US.

There’s been a lot of discount sales on the OnePlus 9 series since they launched in March 2021. Just last month, the company reduced the prices of both the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro significantly for two weeks. If you’ve been looking to buy one and somehow missed out on the too-many-to-count price slashes, you now have another chance. OnePlus is offering juicy discounts on last year’s flagship devices, alongside the OnePlus Nord N200, OnePlus Buds Pro, and OnePlus Buds Z2.

No phone has made the jump to Android 12 without running into a few bugs along the way. Samsung paused its upgrade before making it available again just a couple of days later, while Google struggled for over a month to get its Pixel 6 issues worked out. With OxygenOS 12, OnePlus faces even greater challenges as it works to merge its code base with ColorOS. Today, a new round of bug fixes is making its way to the company's latest flagships.

OnePlus buyer's guide: Which OnePlus phone should you buy in 2022?

With a foreword about all that app-throttling business

By

here was a time when OnePlus's phone lineup was easy to understand, but as the brand's scope has grown, so has the sheer quantity of phones it offers. Now when you're thinking about buying a OnePlus device, you've got to contend with numbers and letters and descriptors — sometimes all at once (the OnePlus 7T Pro is a phone that exists). But what's all of it mean, and at the end of the day, which phone should you buy? Let this OnePlus phone buyer's guide be a good jumping-off point for a breakdown of some of the best Android phones you can buy.

The OnePlus 9 & 9 Pro are seriously discounted days before OnePlus 10 Pro announcement

Nothing like a good discount to digest some flaws

OnePlus phones aren't the best Android phones these days, but they're still solid products. They have a few things going for them, and a new discount from OnePlus — days before the expected launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro — definitely makes it easier to digest some of their flaws.

OnePlus 9 Pro review: Teaching us to fear updates

It didn't even take a year for OnePlus to drop the software ball this time

OnePlus just can't catch a break these days — and it's pretty much the company's own fault. Right on the heels of a praiseworthy update commitment extension that had us excited to increase our review score, news drops that OnePlus has been throttling some of the most popular apps to better manage battery life and heat. After that, the Android 12 based Oxygen OS 12 update landed, and it was not a good time. In short, the days of a scrappy upstart are over, and a more mature OnePlus is stumbling even as it succeeds. Is this just a phase the company has to work through after the Oppo merger, or a sign of something worse?

Software updates are tricky, especially when you're jumping to an all-new system version. OnePlus has had a challenging time bringing Android 12 to its latest smartphones, even halting its rollout while it worked on fixing up some bugs. With today's patch, OxygenOS 12 users are getting a second round of solutions to some all too common problems.

How to install OxygenOS 12 on your OnePlus 9 (and why you maybe shouldn't)

For those who need it, here's some help

After suffering through an embarrassing recall, OxygenOS 12 (based on Android 12) is finally back for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. But is the right call to install it on your device? We're going to tell you how you can get the new update and why you might not want to.

We were all set to praise OnePlus for getting its first stable build of Android 12 out to its first set of phones before the end of the year — until it turned out that update wasn't so stable after all. The company pulled its OxygenOS 12 OTA last week after discovering a ton of bugs and broken features, but the wait for its return ends today. A new build for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro is once again making its way out to users everywhere.

Delivering a big platform update for your flagship phones is never a small task, and that's doubly true when you're dealing with a major codebase change like OnePlus faced with ColorOS integration. As a result, all eyes were on the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro as their manufacturer released its Android 12-based update for the phones earlier this week. Unfortunately, the reception's been overwhelmingly negative, and now OnePlus is taking the extraordinary step of suspending the update's distribution.

The new OxygenOS 12 update for the OnePlus 9 series is just awful

The "stable" release that's anything but

4
By

OnePlus’s Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 update has finally reached "stable" status. That’s a label that means it shouldn’t be particularly buggy and that it’s rolling out — in this case, to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. But if you’ve been following customer impressions, the new release seems to be anything but stable, and the new software takes some noteworthy (and negative) departures from prior OxygenOS releases. More plainly: OxygenOS 12 is awful and feels like budget phone software on the thousand-dollar OnePlus 9 Pro.

Android 12 has been out for a couple of months now, and it seems to be coming to non-Pixel devices faster than ever before. On the heels of Samsung rolling out an update to the Galaxy S21 series last month, OnePlus is the next company to have new software ready to go for its most recent phones. After a couple of beta releases, OxygenOS 12 is ready to go for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro.

The OnePlus 9 Pro at $800 could be the best Black Friday phone deal

The OnePlus 9 and 8T are also down to their lowest prices yet

By

For this Black Friday, OnePlus is offering some solid deals on its latest flagship phones. Both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are down to their lowest prices we have seen to date, and even last year’s 8T has received a decent discount in the spirit of this festive season.

With Android 12 now available on Pixel phones and fully open-sourced through the AOSP, other OEMs are working hard to bring the latest version of Android to their phones. Samsung, for one, has released One UI 4, based on Android 12, on the Galaxy S21 series, and has beta programs going for some of its other models. OnePlus has also begun work on its OxygenOS 12 update and recently began testing it on its OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro flagships. A second Open Beta build is now landing for both phones, with some key bug fixes and security patches.

Android 12 is finally here — even if it’s not out for Pixel devices just yet — which means the countdown for companies not named Google to update their devices is on. We’ve seen Samsung open up its One UI 4 beta program earlier than expected, and now it’s OnePlus’s turn. Building off its OxygenOS 12 developer previews, today’s Open Beta build gives OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro users the chance to test out some new features and enhancements alongside Android 12.
