The Google Pixel 6 Pro's overheating issues are now a legal matter
A class action lawsuit filed against Google alleges the company sold defect hardware on purpose
Google’s hardware products are routinely plagued by issues, so much so that some of our team members won’t unequivocally recommend Pixel phones anymore. The problems are nothing new, and the company had to deal with multiple class action lawsuits over the years, started and joined by customers disgruntled with the quality of their hardware. There is now a new class action lawsuit in town, alleging Google knowingly sold overheating Pixel 6 Pro units.

Google Pixel 8 Pro vs. Pixel 6 Pro: Time to upgrade?

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. Google Pixel 6 Pro: Which is right for you?
A big-phone brawl pits two former flagships up against one another
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was Samsung's new flagship model in 2022. It represented the best the company had to offer and, in many ways, marked the unification of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines. Given Samsung's prowess when it comes to impressive hardware, it's no surprise that the Galaxy S22 Ultra ranked highly among the best Android phones that year.
Best Google Pixel 6 Pro cases in 2024
Protect that slippery hunk of glass from the cruel, concrete world
Despite a few years removed from its release, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is still a workhorse smartphone that many users rely on daily. The phone is still a great option as a new purchase too, and if you're contemplating adding a Pixel 6 Pro to your collection of electronics, it remains a quality smartphone that can be found at steep discounts. Perhaps most importantly, the Pixel 6 Pro still takes excellent pictures, competing surprisingly well against its successors.
Google Pixel 7 Pro vs. Pixel 6 Pro: Should you upgrade?
The Pixel 7 Pro might not be a dramatic overhaul the way the 6 Pro was, but small refinements elevate the experience
Even with the Google Pixel 8 announcement around the corner, the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro still provide significant value for people who want a powerful smartphone without shelling out over $1,000.
Google Pixel 6 Pro camera guide: What you need to know about telephoto quirks, sensor size, and ‘macro' mode
Everything you need to know about the Pixel 6 Pro's cameras, including telephoto quirks, sensor size, and 'macro' mode, and more
Although we're all about the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro these days, both phones build on the legacy laid out by their predecessors. Just like on Google's 2022 flagships, the periscope telephoto lens was one of the main differentiators between the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, forcing photo bugs to spend an additional $300 for the additional sensor.
The March Pixel Feature Drop has finally started rolling out to Pixel 6 phones
New features and security patches arrive 2 weeks later than we expected
If you're rocking a Pixel 6, 6 Pro, or 6a, you're probably sick of mashing that "Check for updates" button after Google twice delayed the release of the March Pixel Feature Drop for its late 2021 and mid 2022 phones. The big quarterly releases usually start rolling out on the first Monday of March, June, September, and December, but this one seems to have been a bit of a bugaboo for Google.
Wirelessly charge your Pixel and Pixel Buds at once with this Black Friday deal
It's a dynamic (wireless) duo for $38
Think back to all the times this year you've wanted to plug in your phone or earbuds, but decided against it since the cable was in an inconvenient place and you thought, "Eh, I'll be fine." It matters not if you were actually fine or not in the end, because if the number of times that's happened is greater than the number of fingers on your hands, you probably are craving the convenience that a wireless charging pad provides. This Black Friday, we suggest you pick up iOttie's iON Wireless Charging Duo. It's perfect for your Pixel phone and Pixel Buds and you can get it right now at its lowest price for a long time.
Pixel 6 series receives some shiny Topaz from Paranoid Android
OnePlus 9 series also getting an OxygenOS 13 alternative
Paranoid Android is kicking into high gear its Android 13 push with heaps of devices getting into pre-release builds of what it calls Topaz. The dev team fired the starting pistol over the weekend with an alpha for the Nothing Phone 1. But since then, it's been betas all the way for several OnePlus and Pixel phones.
We asked you what your favorite Pixel phone was, and now we have a winner
The results of AP's Favorite Pixel poll are in, and our readers are not a group for nostalgia
We've spent the week celebrating everything Pixel, all leading up to yesterday's official Pixel 7 and 7 Pro unveiling. While Google's hardware brand is about to extend into watches and tablets for the first time, most of the Pixel portfolio is made up of phones. Over the last couple of weeks, we've asked our readers to vote for their favorite Pixel phones of all time on Twitter. After some truly contentious rounds, we've finally reached a victor.
Will the Google Pixel 7 do a better job with pet photography?
With all the recent camera improvements I'm not sure why this is so difficult
I'm not a professional photographer, but I love taking photos of my pets. If they are doing something funny or weird or look particularly cute, I snap a photo. A consistent problem I have is that I can't get a good photo of my black-haired pets. Neither dog nor cat, in good or bad lighting, during the day or at night, no phone has captured them in a life-like way. Even a Google Pixel 6 Pro, can't get the job done. It's 2022, and with all the smartphone camera software and hardware improvements over the last few years, this should be a non-issue. Let's hope new phones, like the Google Pixel 7 series, will do better.
Google Pixel 6 Pro face unlock details spotted again, now in Android 13 QPR1
Could it debut on the Pixel 7 series next month?
One of the strangest parts of the Pixel 6 Pro is the long-awaited face unlock feature we've heard about over 2022, with leaks and pieces of code buried in Android referencing the feature. Now, the Android 13 QPR1 beta has been released, and 9to5Google has spotted further mentions of the feature along with an animation that shows how it'll work when it does arrive.
Google Pixel 6a down to $300, best price ever without a trade-in
The best budget Android phone is now even cheaper
Less than a week after a fantastic $370 deal on the Pixel 6a, Best Buy has blown us all away with an incredible $150 off the most recent Google smartphone. That’s a whole third off the typical MSRP, and it brings the Pixel 6a down to its best price yet at $300. We’ve previously seen the smartphone drop as low as $150 if you had a phone to trade in, but this new Best Buy deal is the best without you having to give up a previous smartphone.
This $370 Google Pixel 6a deal is the perfect price for a nearly-perfect phone
Why wait and pay double for the Pixel 7 when this budget king is available?
It's not just one of the best Android phones on the market; the Google Pixel 6a is the hands-down best value of any Android phone today (and honestly, the best value in smartphones, period). At its normal price of $450, this phone gives you the same Google Tensor performance as the Pixel 6, the same exclusive Pixel features like the Pixel Recorder, Magic Eraser, and Automatic Call Screening, and all-day battery life.
Pixel 6 Pro mod promises extended battery life by making one little tweak you might not even notice
It's a feature we expect to see included by default on the Pixel 7 Pro later this year
Messing around with displays seems to be the hot new trend in Android hardware. Not long after some adventurous modders got 90Hz working on a Pixel 6a — with the potential to recreate it reliably — another screen hack has emerged online. If you're looking to save some power with your Pixel 6 Pro, and you're willing to install a custom kernel for your device, you might get access to an exclusive Pixel 7 Pro feature months before launch.
Android 13's anti-rollback protection has already bricked at least one Pixel 6
It's a shocking point of no return
With Android 13 out of Google's hands and onto developers who are modifying the operating system for their own purposes, it's going to be a tricky road ahead. There are a number of new features the version bump brings that need to be tested, but before they can do that, they'll need to make sure of one crucial thing and that's to install Android 13 on both system partitions of their Pixel device. One developer has found out what happens when things go awry without that second updated partition.
Clearance season for the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro kicks off massive discounts
Get up to $250 off on the Pixel 6 Pro and $100 on the Pixel 6
The Google Pixel 6 series is ten months old now. While it is no longer among the fastest phones out there, the excellent camera and usability experience mean it is still among the best Android smartphones on the market. With its successor—the Pixel 7—due to launch in a couple of months, retailers have been heavily discounting the big G's 2021 flagship in recent weeks. This time around, both Google Store and Amazon have discounted the Pixel 6 series by as much as $250. This makes it a great time to pick big G's 2021 flagship for a while, especially now that Android 13 is out.
Google won’t let you downgrade your Pixel 6 or 6a from Android 13 — here’s why
Once you upgrade to Android 13, there is no way back to Android 12
Read update
Google released Android 13 to the stable channel, which means you can finally upgrade your Pixel phone from Android 12 without having to join the beta. For those who own a Pixel 6a, 6, or 6 Pro, there is no way back, though. Google warns that once you upgrade your new Pixel phone to Android 13, you will no longer be able to flash an earlier version of the OS on it. That’s because the bootloader is updated along with the OS.
Some Target stores are discounting the Pixel 6 Pro by a crazy 70% right now
You might call this 'The Final Markdown'
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are old news and in Google's rear view mirror. For now, the Pixel 6a is getting its 15 minutes to shine before the Pixel 7 phones inevitably push them aside, too. It's just the way things go. But it also might be prime time to go a-huntin' for some terrific Pixel deals... except in this case, you'd have to do it in the real world.
