dbrand x-ray skins for Pixel 8 and other phone models
Dbrand just spent 24 hours doubling down on racist remarks before apologizing

Maybe they should rename the company 'Dbags' instead

For the last decade-plus, we've had to sit through brands developing personalities, specifically through their social media presence. Thanks to all sorts of viral moments and interactions from your favorite store-bought cookies or breakfast cereal, companies have gotten good at pretending they're just like you. In the tech world, no brand has shown more spunk on social media and beyond than Dbrand, an attitude that landed them in hot water over the past 24 hours after throwing around some particular racist comments.

Casetify might have swiped its case designs from more than just Dbrand

Casetify’s boilerplate response doesn’t quite help matters

Earlier this week, reputable protective skin maker, Dbrand, alleged that the Canadian smartphone case maker Casetify stole copyrighted Teardown skin designs for its own products. Dbrand posted compelling evidence to X and filed a lawsuit along with Teardown’s co-creator Zack Nelson of the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel. After an entire day of silence, Casetify finally issues a public statement. Meanwhile, Dbrand harpooned the brand again, demonstrating how the brand may have also plagiarized iFixit’s X-ray skin design.

Dbrand unveiled its new X-ray skins while getting Casetify on the chopping block for allegedly swiping its designs

Casetify's in hot water after Dbrand slapped the company with a "multi-million dollar" lawsuit, claiming it copied the latter's "Teardown" skins and cases. These designs, crafted in collaboration with YouTuber Zack Nelson (aka JerryRigEverything), mimic the insides of devices like phones and laptops. Quite coincidentally, Dbrand and Nelson also unveiled a fresh batch of X-ray skins right when all this drama unfolded.

Dbrand and JerryRigEverything are suing Casetify for copyright infringement

YouTuber Zack Nelson of the JerryRig Everything YouTube channel has been a content creator for years, speed-running the best Android phones through a lifetime of wear and tear in just a few minutes. Nelson also collaborates with popular skin and case maker, Dbrand, for the Teardown skins. Recently, the YouTuber caught rival case brand Casetify blatantly stealing Teardown designs for its own product range.

Twitter ruined blue verified checks so Dbrand's like: screw it, stickers

It's probably a better use of your $8

The current situation with Twitter verification is a mess. Twitter's new big boss is Elon Musk, and he came up with a wild plan to give "power to the people" and make verification a Twitter Blue perk, bringing with it a price hike from $5 to $8 per month. This move — which went live this week — implicitly changed the meaning of verification from "I'm an authentic account" to "I have $8 in my wallet," as nearly any account can now be verified. But it's one thing to be verified on the world's best worst (or maybe worst best?) social network — what about being verified in real life? Dbrand's new product allows you to do just that.

Ahead of the anticipated Pixel 6a pre-order announcement, dbrand has done a dbrand, showing off a new set of Pantone-accurate skins you can get for all Pixel 6 models that turn them into a 1980's blast-from-the-past. Building on last year's joke, you can get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-themed skin for the Pixel 6a, 6, and 6 Pro.

Latest dbrand skin makes the Nothing Phone into Something

A little Something for your smartphone

If you dug the Nothing Phone (1)'s semi-transparent vibes but either can't buy one or simply don't want to, dbrand's latest gag might tickle your fancy. Its newest line of skins, appropriately called "Something," can make your Pixel look like something Carl Pei spent the last six months promoting feature-by-feature.

Most folk in tech blogging claim to hate April Fools' day — presumably, because they hate fun. I'm a fan of the seasonal gags (when they're good), but there's one this year that has crossed over for me from joke to a legitimately useful thing. If you've ever wished you could buy a custom skin for something no one makes skins for, dbrand's launched-as-a-joke DIY Kit might actually be handy.

dbrand Leather review: Show a little skin

This is really nice leather

I’ve never been a “smartphone skin” person — they just aren’t my style. Why would I want to cover my super-premium, beautifully engineered aluminum and glass objet d'art with a cheap sheet of vinyl, like grandma does for her aging sofa set? Honestly, I even found the idea a little gross. But as someone who loves premium materials, dbrand’s new leather skins have made me a convert. They are really, really nice.

dbrand's leather skins are now on sale and shipping in December

It sounds like they're made out of the good stuff, too

Back in August, dbrand announced it would release its popular smartphone and gadgets skins in a new line made of actual skin — cow skin, to be precise. At the time, all we knew was that they were coming soon, and they'd only be available for a limited time. But it sounds like it was worth the wait. dbrand's snazzy new leather skins are now up for purchase to ship in December, and it sounds like they're made out of some pretty good stuff.

Protect your shiny new investment in style

Samsung may have just launched a duo of hot new foldables for the 2021-2022 season, but the S21 series from earlier this year is still no slouch. Equipped with a Snapdragon 888 chip, impressive camera arrays, and a beautiful display, we even called it “the 2021 smartphone to beat (so far).” Here are just some of our favorite cases that’ll help you keep your S21 in good condition for years to come.

dbrand's going to dress your gadgets up in honest-to-god leather, coming this fall

Leather is skin but they're leather skins so they're also skin skins and that's weird to think about

Skins are a fun way to customize your phone, but if you're a materials snob like me, vinyl just doesn't cut it. If you like the concept but you've got an appreciation for natural materials, you'll want to zip over to dbrand's site today and register for the company's upcoming leather skins — as in, actual it-used-to-moo-and-eat-grass cow leather. Both stock and details are limited, and you can't buy one just yet, but dbrand was willing to tell us a little bit about the upcoming skins.

Seven great cases for your Pixel 4a 5G

Style, protection, and utility

The next iteration of the Pixel A series is right around the corner, but unless you’re willing to spend the money to upgrade, that Pixel 4a 5G in your hand is more than good enough to last another year or more. Whether you’re just now coming around to the idea of wrapping it in a case, or you’re looking for something new, these are our seven favorite case options for the Pixel 4a 5G.

Five great cases for your new Pixel 5

Protection — and personality

The Pixel 5's time to shine may be over now that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are here, but that doesn't mean the phone in your hand is any less stellar than it was a year ago. Keep that bio resin back look clean for another year or two by wrapping it in one of our favorite cases for the Google Pixel 5.

dbrand's Damascus skins cause cell signal issues for some, but the company promises to make things right

'Precision Fit' wraparound cases in Holo Red, Holo Green, and Warzone can cause the problem

By

Over the last few days, we've seen reports that dbrand's new Damascus skin causes reduced cellular signal performance. The company has confirmed to us that certain wraparound Precision Fit versions of the new skin are affected due to a one-part-per-thousand metallic additive used to create the "holographic" reflective effect. Extensive testing to better understand the issue is ongoing, and the company promises to find an appropriate resolution for its customers.

If you've ever picked up your handset and thought, "I wish my phone looked like a scoop of sherbet," your dream has finally come true. Today, dbrand is dropping a limited Pastel collection that probably should've launched in spring, but showing up on time to the party isn't what winners do. Check them out!

Unless you’ve been stuck under a rock for the last two months (not that you've had any choice in the matter), there’s no way you missed out on the newest flagships from the company that Never Settles. The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro may be #bendgate proof, but their all-glass bodies are just as breakable as any other overpriced gadget you don’t need (but are buying anyways). Lucky for you, dbrand’s OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro skins and cases are here to protect you from your butterfingers.

The dbrand website has been infected! No, we're not talking about the currently-raging global pandemic. We're not talking about a computer virus that will hijack your bank account, either... but that one's not far off. dbrand's limited edition Teardown skins are back and as infectious as ever. There's no known cure: you can only hope your wallet will be strong enough to survive the onslaught.

When robots finally take over the world, there will only be two ways to ensure the human race survives: burrow underground like mole people, or adopt a camo that not even AI can detect. Although dbrand may still be a decade or two away from perfecting human skin wraps (you didn't hear that from us), it's already possible to shield your phone in this robot-confounding technology. Snatch up these new Limited Edition Robot Camo skins from dbrand and protect your phone from the AI-pocalypse.

You can get vinyl skins from dbrand that make your phone look like wood, metal, or just very bright vinyl. Now, you can also get skins that make them look transparent thanks to a partnership with YouTuber Zack Nelson. You probably know him best as the disembodied voice behind the JerryRigEverything durability test videos. The skins are only available for a limited time, and there apparently are "dozens" of easter eggs.
