Netatmo's new smart video doorbell has SD card support, no subscription fees

Smart doorbells are hardly novel at this point, with options available from several manufacturers. Many, like those from Google's Nest and Amazon's Ring, require subscription fees to unlock their full feature set. Not so with the new offering from Netatmo, which will do everything it can do right out of the box, no fees required.

Nanoleaf challenger LaMetric Sky is colorful, compact, and can display live data

Over the past few years, Nanoleaf has become the go-to source for a very particular kind of home decor: wall-mounted LED smart lights. It was only a matter of time before that industry started getting more crowded though, and thus we now have LaMetric Sky, a smaller version of Nanoleaf that differentiates itself by broadcasting information including social media counts, sales figures, and the weather.

Costco members can pick up the LG ThinQ View smart display for $170 ($80 off)

Smart displays are a neat product category; pairing the convenience of smart speakers with visual components is a surprisingly robust experience. In my review of the LG ThinQ View, I found that while its general smart display-ness is nice, there isn't enough special about it to justify its $250 MRSP. A hefty discount can make a real difference, though, and that's just what Costco members can get on the device.

We're here in Berlin for IFA 2018, and one of the first press conferences we attended was by Harman. The Samsung-owned company is an umbrella for several smaller brands, including JBL, AKG, and the higher-end Harman Kardon, all of which got some stage time. Google Assistant speakers, headphones, and a smart display from JBL were re-announced for different markets, but the only truly new things of interest to us came from Harmon Kardon

Arlo, a recently spun-off Netgear business, has been making wireless security cameras for several years. We've covered the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 a lot because they're far and away the best fully wireless cameras on the market, but the current offerings top out at 1080p. That changes with the upcoming Arlo Ultra. These cameras, expected in early 2019, will sport 4K HDR video, a spotlight, color night vision, and more.

I wasn't expecting to see that we've covered Kohler before since it's known for making pricey kitchen and bathroom products, but to my surprise we have. This year, many of those will finally go on sale alongside an updated Numi 2.0 intelligent toilet and a new arty collection.

Arlo Audio Doorbell and Chime review: Easy setup, questionable value

Ding-dong; the future's here! With smart-home technology making it more affordable than ever to outfit your domicile with everything from high-resolution, subject-identifying security cameras to wireless, effortlessly hooked up door and window sensors, who's really thinking about installing something as seemingly archaic as a doorbell and chime? We've already spent some time getting to to know Arlo's wireless camera systems, and I recently set out to see how that setup might be enhanced by the addition of the $80 Arlo Audio Doorbell and the $50 Arlo Chime.
