[Deal Alert] Verizon And LG Offer Up To $400 Off The G4 And A Tablet With Coupons And Rebates

The LG G4 has a lot going for it, including a confirmed update to Android Marshmallow. And if you're in the market to buy one for the Verizon network, it currently has some fantastic price discounts. A reader tipped us the following combination of coupon codes and rebates, so follow along:

  1. Use the promo code "LGG4SAVE" to take $100 off of a new G4 from Verizon's online store or mention it at a retail store. This drops the current price from $552 for the 32GB to $452. This promotion expires on November 14th.

Note: this code doesn't seem to work if you buy the phone outright; you have to select the payment plan.

[That Was Fast] LG Announces Android 6.0 Updates For The G4 Are Starting Next Week With Poland First Up

For the second year in a row, LG is announcing a lightning-fast rollout for the new version of Android on its flagship phone. The LG G4 will start getting Marshmallow next week, but only if you live in Poland. That was also the first G3 Lollipop market last year. LG likes Poland, I guess. Other markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas are to follow.

LG Announces The G4 Beat, A Mid-Range Alternative To The Flagship G4: 5.2" 1080p Screen, Snapdragon 615, 8MP Rear Camera

If you like the style and utility of the G4 but need something a little easier on your wallet, LG has something to show you. The G4 Beat is a cheaper alternative and the sequel to last year's G3 Beat. You'll have to make some notable compromises to get that price down, and unfortunately it's going to be difficult to gauge whether they're worth it - the company hasn't said precisely how much it will cost, though some markets will be getting the phone later this month.

The screen on the G4 Beat is probably one of the best in the mid-range market, a 5.2" 1080p IPS panel.

LG Releases Its Long Promised Bootloader Unlock Tool, But It Currently Only Supports The G4 For The EU Open Market (H815)

Many moons ago, LG had promised the release of an official bootloader unlock tool for its G3, but the company didn't make good on its word. It seems that the plans were never forgotten though, because LG's Developer site got a new "Unlock Bootloader" page that does just that, except it's not for the G3 (yet).

While bootloader unlocking is quite easy on Nexus devices, almost all other Android phones and tablets suffer from tightly locked bootloaders that require a bit of tinkering to get access to. Both Sony and Motorola actively try to help developers achieve unlock (and there was a time when HTC did so too), but owners of other brands are usually left on their own - free to roam the forums and try to find a method that works, or to use Sunshine if it's compatible.

LG Expands Its G4 Family Lineup With The Midrange G4 Stylus And G4c — Removable Batteries And MicroSD Slots Abound

Following up on its flagship G4 announcement for 2015, LG is now supplementing its lineup as it does every year with more midrange options that can appeal to and target different audiences: a larger phablet with a stylus for a Note-like approach and a smaller less powerful variant of its star player.

Let's start with the G4 Stylus. It comes with a larger 5.7" display than the G4, albeit with a lower 720p resolution that results in a rather average 258ppi. It has drawn the short end of the stick on other specs as well, coming with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, but there will be two variants: a 3G one and an LTE one.

AT&T Now Sells The LG Escape 2, A Budget Phone That Looks Less Like Its Predecessor And More Like A Cheap G4

The LG Escape wasn't a bad phone back in 2012. Now it's 2015, and AT&T has quietly released a follow-up on its website priced at an affordable $180.

Like the original, the LG Escape 2 comes with a decent set of specs for the price. Buyers get a 4.7-inch screen with a 1280 by 720 resolution. On the inside, there's a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage (supplemented by a microSD card slot). An 8MP camera sits on the back.

Here's the kicker. The display and the entire device are slightly curved, just like the LG G4 and G Flex 2.

Okay, not everything was unveiled. One piece of information we were waiting to see confirmed was the processor. Rather than adopt the Snapdragon 810, LG has opted for the 808. It and Qualcomm boast that with this processor the device is able to get more than a full day of battery life.

Two Midrange LG Phones - The Leon And G Stylo - Are Headed To T-Mobile Alongside The G4

Back at Mobile World Congress in February, LG announced a bevy of mid range devices. Among them were the LG G Stylo, a 5.7-inch phablet with a stylus, and the humble 4.5-inch LG Leon. After the announcement of the LG G4 today, T-Mobile added product pages for both of these handsets and it would appear they are preparing to refresh their entire LG product lineup.

Here is a quick overview of each device:

LG Shares More Details About Its G4-Bound UX 4.0 In Another Teaser Video

There aren't lots of secrets left regarding LG's upcoming flagship phone prior to its unveiling next week on April 28. The company itself has been busy pre-announcing the G4's 16MP f/1.8 camera sensor, leather back, and UX 4.0, before letting the cat out of the bag almost entirely (or inadvertently?). Now a second part of the UX 4.0 teaser reveals more details about the updated software layer that will ship on the phone.

This part 2 explains two features that were hinted at in the first video, namely Ringtone ID and Quick Shot. The former automatically creates personalized ringtones for your contacts to differentiate them by tone and the second takes a photo by simply double tapping the rear volume down key.

LG Shows Off The Leather-Clad G4 And Most Features In A Huge Web Leak

Thanks to the fanatical culture that's grown up around mobile technology, we haven't been truly surprised by a new device in years. Even LG knows this: the company has been slowly revealing its upcoming G4 flagship, piece by pedantic piece, in the weeks leading up to the April 28th launch event. Last night an LG "micro site" was briefly published and removed, and it leaves very little of the G4 to the imagination.
