For Audiophiles: Sub-$100 Mobile Headset (Earbuds + Mic) Review Round-Up + Meelectronics Earbuds Giveaway (5x Pairs, $200 Value)

This article was written by a guest writer, Mikhail Lifshits, better known as ljokerl over at head-fi.org. Mikhail is an audiophile to the bone - a single look at his forum user page will leave you wondering if there is a pair of earbuds Mikhail hasn't owned or tried yet.

Today’s smartphones are quickly absorbing the functions of other portable devices - PDAs, portable GPS units, and standalone MIDs are a thing of the past - and conventional MP3 players may be next on the cutting block.

Sprint Fires Up 4G in New York City, NY; Hartford, New Haven, CT; New Brunswick, Trenton, NJ; Tampa, FL

In addition to NYC, 5 other cities that went live today include Hartford and New Haven in Connecticut, New Brunswick and Trenton in New Jersey, and Tampa in good old Florida.

Epic 4G and EVO 4G users, fire up your devices and give these new networks a good test so that you can feel better about paying that $10 "premium data" fee for all those months before 4G.

Samsung Continuum And Motorola Citrus To Hit Verizon On November 11

Samsung Continuum And Motorola Citrus To Hit Verizon On November 11

Right alongside the launch of the Galaxy Tab, Verizon prepared to launch two Android-running phones on November 11: the ticker-equipped Samsung Continuum and Motorola's latest lower-end handset, the Citrus.

Samsung Continuum

As previously reported, the Continuum is a member of the Galaxy S family, albeit a rather odd one. The technical specs are largely the same as previous Galaxy S phones, with a few big changes:

  • 3.4", 800 x 480 Super AMOLED screen
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 5 megapixel camera with LED flash
  • 720p recording
  • 2 GB internal memory
  • 8 GB microSD card pre-installed
  • TouchWiz atop Android 2.2
  • 96 x 480 "ticker" below main screen

Clearly, what sets the Continuum apart from the slew of other Android phones available is the secondary screen, which is said to be used for notifications, RSS feeds, Facebook, as well as music controls.

Whoops: PayPal Accidentally Reveals That Support For Android, iOS, And BlackBerry Is Coming

In what is certainly a grade-A dropping of the ball, it looks like somebody accidentally pulled the trigger on a post at PayPal's Blog before it was time to. We say accidentally because the post read:

... reporting from Innovate 2010. Today, Google announced that you can use PayPal to buy apps on their Android Market.

The only thing is, at the time the post went live, no such thing had been revealed yet - whoops.

Samsung Promises FroYo Update For All Galaxy S Versions In November [Update: UK Only]

All together now: finally! After several broken promises and recalled updates, Samsung's just announced that Android 2.2 FroYo will be available through a "brand new version of Kies" (that's Samsung's software upgrade system) early in November for Galaxy S owners in the UK, while "all operator versions" are "expected" to be available by the end of November (hopefully that includes the "operator versions" of the Galaxy S that Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile are currently carrying here in the States).

Android 2.2 (Froyo) Update Begins Rolling Out For Samsung Galaxy S - In The Nordic Region

Android 2.2 (Froyo) Update Begins Rolling Out For Samsung Galaxy S - In The Nordic Region

We have good news and bad news for Samsung Galaxy S owners. The good: the Froyo update source code released a few days ago is now officially being rolled out by Samsung. The bad news: they're starting with the Nordic countries... then "gradually" moving across Europe, Asia, North America, Africa, and everyone else.

The word "gradually" isn't exactly encouraging, and neither is the fact that North America is towards the end of the list.
