Samsung Galaxy S24+ review: A safe bet

AI gimmicks aside, this is a very easy-to-recommend flagship

4
By

At a time when hardware advancements are slow and AI junk is absolutely everywhere, it's not hard to write off a phone like the Galaxy S24+. It looks nearly identical to Samsung's last Plus phone, and the selling point Samsung talks about most loudly is a suite of Galaxy-branded AI features that most people won't want or need. Who cares?

Gamesir G8 Galileo controller review: Function and form

The perfect controller that slips over your phone for easy marathon gaming sessions

4
By

Many of our favorite Android gaming controllers make ergonomic sacrifices to take up as little space as possible for on-the-go gaming. The Gamesir G8 Galileo is the biggest controller we've reviewed yet, but all this mass is put to good use. After testing the controller for a few months, I can also say it would be the best snap-on controller I've reviewed, if not for one major flaw.

Moto G Power 5G (2024) review: Ads nauseum

This phone makes me feel unwell in more ways than one

We are absolutely inundated with budget Android offerings these days — perhaps even more so than their more expensive flagship counterparts. No one company has led the charge more on this front than Motorola. It's easy to forget how bad low-end Android phones were in the 2010s, but the earliest entries in the Moto G-series helped change that stigma. These were devices you weren't scared to recommend to friends and family on a budget, even if they came with their fair share of caveats.

Synology BeeStation review: A great first NAS

Looking for a straightforward NAS for your home? This is it!

4
By

Synology has a strong hold over the conventional network storage space, where it offers tons of excellent NAS models across price ranges; I still rely on the good-old DiskStation DS920+ for my everyday use. But for someone new to the world of network-attached storage (NAS), there are a lot of network and hardware settings to figure out — so much so that it can easily deter people from investing in one.

Nothing Phone 2a review: Nothing you're missing out on

In an about-face from Phone 2, Nothing's latest is made for Europe and Asia

4
By

The Nothing Phone 2a is a decent budget device with a unique look — par for the course for Nothing. For an asking price of $350 or so, the 2a offers Nothing's striking design, a nice display, long battery life, and more-than-good-enough performance.

It'll take a specific use case for this adapter to make sense

If you’ve purchased or rented a new car in the past five years or so, there’s a good chance it supports Android Auto, Google’s smartphone projection system that lets you put Google Maps and other Android apps up on your dashboard in a way that’s vastly superior to the infotainment systems found in most vehicles.

The Honor Magic 6 Pro is jam-packed with the latest hardware and offers a battery like no other

Ever since Huawei was forced out of the US and other Western markets, its former subsidiary Honor has done its best to fill the hole left by what was once one of the most popular smartphone makers around the globe. While Honor still isn't there, it's on a growth trajectory. The company achieves this with its ever-improving lineup of flagship phones and some formidable hardware advancements in the foldable sector with the ultra-thin Magic V2.

Carlinkit 5.0 review: Reliable wireless Android Auto with a catch

A solid Android Auto adapter — once you get it working

By

Today, many vehicles support Android Auto, letting you project Google Maps, YouTube Music, Spotify, or whatever other apps you want to hit the road on your in-vehicle display. However, while it's not hard to find a car that includes Android Auto, most still require you to plug your phone in with a USB cable; standard Bluetooth systems don't have the bandwidth to pull it off, so you either need a higher-end trim with built-in Wi-Fi or a wireless Android Auto adapter to bridge the gap. That's where the Carlinkit 5.0 comes in.

If you want a cutting-edge phone these days, you look to a sick foldable phone or some Pro Ultima Max of a beast. But for those of us who want a phone that fits in our hands, our pockets, and our budgets while still delivering the premium experience we know and demand from the most important electronics in our lives. While the Galaxy S24 Ultra struggled to excite even the most faithful of Samsung diehards, the relatively small upgrades in this year's base-model Galaxy are arguably the most important of the series.

OnePlus 12R review: A real flagship killer for $500

A phone that packs all the power you need for the price you want to pay

4
By

No smartphone is perfect for everyone. For some, a budget Android phone is all they need to send texts or navigate with Maps. For others, power is everything: the newest processor, the biggest screen, the most impressive camera. Even dating back to its earliest smartphones a decade ago, OnePlus has always done its best to mix the two, making compromises between power, performance, and price to keep the cost lower than its rivals. And though the brand hasn't always stayed true to this promise, lineups like the Nord series have done their best to keep the dream alive.

T-Mobile REVVL 6x Pro review: A not-so-terrible network exclusive for only $230

There are definitely better budget phones out there, but you could worse than this T-Mobile phablet.

4
By

T-Mobile has been building out its lineup of carrier-exclusive devices over the last few years, with some notably affordable entries with surprisingly impressive features. The REVVL 6x Pro certainly falls into this category as a sub-$220 smartphone that offers wireless charging, something rarely found on devices in that price range. If you’re on a budget and need an excuse to utilize your new wireless charger, there are worse things than getting locked into T-Mobile’s network.

Nubia Z60 Ultra review: Exciting on paper

The Nubia Z60 Ultra struggles to live up to its impressive hardware

4
By

We’ve reviewed numerous phones from Nubia’s gaming sub-brand, Redmagic, which offer unbeatable gaming performance at realistic prices. However, they struggle to compete outside of their gaming niche. The Nubia Z60 Ultra is the company’s attempt to deliver an affordable flagship smartphone, pairing flagship hardware with a mid-range price.

The Honor Magic V2 from the top, showing off how thin it is when folded
Honor Magic V2 review: I can't believe how thin this is

The Honor Magic V2 is likely the most technologically advanced foldable in the West

4
By

The first thing I felt when I held the Honor Magic V2 in my hands was disbelief. It seemed like an impossible device, barely thicker and heavier than a regular phone but still a book-style foldable, with a full separate screen on the inside. Over the next days of reviewing the foldable, that magic washed away just a bit, but I'm still coming away more than impressed. At €2,000, roughly $2,150, that is absolutely the way it has to be.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review: Still the best, unless you take photos

Without any meaningful changes, Samsung's latest phablet feels like a do-over for last year's smartphone

4
By

When you follow the smartphone landscape as closely as we — Android Police writers and readers alike — do, it can be pretty easy to feel cynical about the current state of mobile. Yes, the S24 series is, at first blush, all too similar to its predecessors, but that only matters if you're looking to upgrade every twelve months. Yes, features like AI and a titanium frame can feel like attempts at chasing the buzzword du jour, but if you can actually nail improved hardware and software down, even semi-refreshed hardware can feel invigorating. Just ask Google.

OnePlus 12 review: All flagship, no AI

This phone leaves nothing on the table, making for a truly complete package

4
By

Since the OnePlus One release just shy of a decade ago, the company has been supplying Android fans with phones with a primary focus on performance without breaking the bank. Some could argue that it may have strayed from that path with a couple of generations of devices, but it seemed to truly get back on track with the OnePlus 11 from 2023.

This Android-powered car entertainment system might be overkill but it's fun

While automakers are constantly trying to improve their in-car navigation and infotainment systems, they have difficulty matching what the smartphone that's in your pocket can do for you. That's where Android Auto comes in, allowing you to bring all the power of your Android phone to your dashboard — from Google Maps to YouTube Music.

Lofree Flow mechanical keyboard review: Small stature, big thocks

The new benchmark for low-profile mechanical keyboard sound and feel

4

Mechanical keyboards are the talk of computer peripheral town, and every brand is vying for a piece of the pie. We cut through the noise and filter out the best options available for you on the market, but you may notice the abject lack of choice when you seek a mechanical replacement for your laptop keyboard or products equivalent to the sleek Apple Magic Keyboard and Logitech MX Keys series.

Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro review: I'm not sure this is a gaming phone

Asus has changed the ROG Phone formula, and I'm not convinced it's for the better

4
By

Asus has been steadily manufacturing the best Android gaming phones for years now. All due to the fact it was making purpose-built devices, bucking trends found in other flagships by offering huge batteries, front-facing speakers, and a large full screen unencumbered by pinholes and notches. As of 2024, this is no longer the case with the ROG Phone 8 Pro launch. Perhaps spurred by the Zenfone's success, Asus has seen fit to change the direction of the ROG Phone, now offering something more in line with your typical flagship.

8BitDo Lite 2 controller with Bob-omb
8BitDo Lite 2 controller review: Small and satisfying

A great controller for gaming on the go

4
By

There’s no such thing as the perfect gaming controller (but there are a few contenders). Besides the fact that hand size runs the gamut from child to Andre the Giant, you also have to consider how you plan on using your controller. If you’re settling in for a few hours, you’ll probably want something wired and ergonomic. On the other hand, if you play on your phone and portability is your biggest concern, you’ll want to go wireless and small. The Lite 2 from 8BitDo falls squarely into the latter category.

Nubia scores again with an affordable and powerful gaming phone

Perhaps prompted by Asus teasing the upcoming ROG Phone 8, Nubia has revealed the Redmagic 9 Pro. This gaming phone is Nubia's most powerful device yet, eclipsing the Redmagic 8, one of the best gaming phones of 2023.
