TWRP support arrives for Exynos Galaxy Note9, Sony Xperia 10, and more
Several Xiaomi and Realme devices round out the list
The root/ROM fanbase has dwindled over the years, but there are still people out there dedicated to the craft. TWRP is the most popular custom recovery available by far, and since we last posted in late January, 11 more devices have been added to the roster.
Chinese manufacturers Huawei, OPPO, and Xiaomi are about to bring their first 5G phones to one of Europe's frontier battlegrounds for the new network technology: Switzerland. Swisscom is to launch sales of the OPPO Reno 5G from May 1 while Sunrise will sell the Huawei Mate 20 X (5G) and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G starting May 2.
TWRP, short for TeamWin Recovery Project, is the most popular custom recovery available for Android devices. It can flash ROMs, backup and restore your phone, and even repair Android installations. In the two months since we last covered TWRP, the project has added nine more phones to the roster of supported devices.
Last year, LG teamed up with Google to bring a Bixby-style Assistant hardware button to some of its phones. Turns out that collaboration was just the start. Today, Google is announcing that this partnership is extending to "the full portfolio" of new devices from LG and Nokia, as well as select handsets by Xiaomi, Vivo, and TCL (read: Alcatel, Palm, and BlackBerry).
This year’s MWC is all about folding phones and 5G connectivity, and Xiaomi just threw its hat in the ring with the announcement of its first 5G smartphone: the Mi Mix 3 5G. As the name implies, this is simply the Mi Mix 3 but with an upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and X50 5G modem.
It's been a strange year for smartphone design. The notch has infiltrated pretty much every major OEM at every price point, yet everyone seems to hate it (or at least those most vocal on the internet). Manufacturers keep plowing on, however, with even Samsung jumping on the camera cutout bandwagon ahead of the Galaxy S10 launch. If you're patiently waiting for the display cutout fad to end, it's good to know some Chinese smartphone makers have already come up with alternative solutions for bezel-free phones.
ARCore updates generally just bring support to a set of both old and new Android devices, but every once in a while we're treated to something pretty unexpected. In the latest version, new profiles can be found for one, or maybe even two currently unreleased Google devices. The first of these devices bares the Bonito name, originally expected to be a mid-range Pixel phone. There's also a brand new fish-themed codename that may represent an entirely new device: Sargo.
Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has revealed its latest flagship phone and, as we've come to expect, it's stunning. The Mix series has always been about pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and the Mi Mix 3 is no different. Just as Xiaomi already teased, the front of the device is nearly bezel-less thanks to a sliding mechanism that hides the dual front-facing cameras (24MP + 2MP).

Xiaomi shared a 3D render of the upcoming Mi Mix 3 last week, showing off the pop-out camera mechanism. Xiaomi's Director of Product Management, Donovan Sung, has posted today a real photo of the phone and revealed it will support 5G.
