T-Mobile is rolling out Nougat to the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and Galaxy Tab S2

Samsung and its carrier partners can take a long time to get big system updates rolled out to older devices, but at least it happens. Some OEMs would have abandoned a phone from 2015 by now, but T-Mobile is rolling out a Nougat update to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which was promised a few days ago. Bonus: the Tab S2 on T-Mobile is getting the update, too.

Samsung confirms the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Edge+, Note5, and more will get Android 7.0 Nougat in the first half of 2017

Samsung confirms the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Edge+, Note5, and more will get Android 7.0 Nougat in the first half of 2017

Well, this is a first. Of all the major OEMs that we cover on Android Police, few give us more headache when it comes to their Android updates than Samsung and LG. HTC, Sony, Motorola have been known to reveal which devices they plan to update to a newer version of Android and to give a timeline of that update, a practice they have followed over the past few years, but Samsung and LG? Radio silence. That frustrated us as reporters and you as users because you never knew if a phone you bought last year would get bumped to a new Android version or not.

AT&T Galaxy Tab S2 gets Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA

AT&T Galaxy Tab S2 gets Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA

AT&T is finally catching up on its Marshmallow OTA rollouts to its fleet of Android devices. And today's lucky winner of "Which device will get an OTA?" is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 2 (T817A).

Mouthful name aside, this may not be the most exciting tablet on the market, but it still deserves to be on the latest and greatest software version possible — even if only for a short time until Nougat is official. And it also deserves to catch up to its Verizon colleague: nobody wants to be left behind more than a month.

Apparently, the software has been rolling out since July 8, but AT&T just decided to update its support page (raise your hand if you see a trend of late updates in everything AT&T does lately).

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Gets Marshmallow OTA Update

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Gets Marshmallow OTA Update

The software version number is MMB29K.T817VVRU2BPE1 and it brings all of Marshmallow's goodies to the Tab S2, including Doze mode for longer battery life, per-app permissions for more control over your apps, and Google Now on Tap for... whatever you find Now on Tap is useful for. There are many more Android 6.0 features to enjoy too, as we've previously detailed.

[Deal Alert] Refurbished Galaxy Tab S2 With Verizon LTE $289.99 On eBay ($599.99 New At Verizon)

Android tablets with LTE aren't all that common. Okay, Android tablets in general aren't exactly a hot segment of the market. The pickings are particularly slim for a slate with cellular data.

The Galaxy Tab S2 is one of the best options currently on the market, with or without LTE. But if you do want that freedom to browse the web basically anywhere, now is a good time to open your wallet.
