[Deal Alert] Manufacturer refurbished AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (G935A) $299.99 at eBay

They're not new, but they are being sold as "manufacturer refurbished," which is usually OK. Generally, we avoid talking about refurbished devices, but this is an incredible deal.

The wait for Nougat on the unlocked US Galaxy S7 edge (G935U) is finally over. Samsung has dragged its heels for quite a while on pushing 7.0 for the US unlocked models, but at least one of Samsung's year-old flagships is seeing it. Unfortunately, there is still no word on the non-edge G930U variant. The latest update is available, although no users have reported seeing it as an OTA yet. For now, you'll have to manually install it if you want it.

The Galaxy S8's new battery will degrade less quickly than the Galaxy S7's

One statistic you may see cited more rarely about Samsung's new Galaxy S8 is the performance of its battery cell over time. We spoke to Samsung about the new generation of battery found in the S8 and S8+, and they had a pretty impressive statistic to share. Compared to the outgoing Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, the S8 and S8+ will lose substantially less of their effective capacity over the same amount of time, at least at the point of two years of typical usage.

Specifically, Samsung says that after two years' worth of charges and discharges, the Galaxy S7 only maintained about 80% of its total effective battery capacity.

Galaxy S7 and S7 edge vs Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+: Photos, comparisons, specs, and more

Samsung's newest smartphones are here - so how do they stack up to the old ones? I brought a Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to my hands-on with the S8 and S8+, and I have some thoughts, pictures, and figures to share with you. Let's start with the visuals: you can see in the hero image of this post that the S8 and S8+ are both very substantially taller than their predecessors. Samsung is betting that consumers will be willing to deal with a taller phone (albeit narrower) to get that extra screen space they crave, and I think they may be right here.

Samsung updates unlocked US Galaxy S7 to latest security patch, continues to ignore Nougat exists

Samsung has finally issued an update to the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge sold in the US (the G930U and G935U, respectively), but it's going to come as bittersweet news for owners: Nougat is not in tow. While the OTA does bring the phones up to the latest Android security patch level, the long-awaited upgrade to Android 7.0 is nowhere to be found.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge long-term review: A home run for most, but not for all

When the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge launched in March of last year, they received fantastic reviews. Everyone, including the notoriously-critical David, raved about their fantastic AMOLED displays, water resistance, more grown-up software, excellent cameras, and so much more. Virtually any and all niggles that the Galaxy S6 warranted were fixed in the latest iteration. The S7 edge, in particular, received extraordinarily high praise for its gorgeous curved screen and excellent battery life.

However, Samsung devices aren't exactly well known for holding up well over time. With the highly-anticipated Galaxy S8 launch rapidly approaching, it's time to take a look at how the Galaxy S7 edge is doing, one year after its debut.

Samsung is switching to a monthly security update schedule for US-unlocked Galaxy phones

When the US unlocked models of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge were released, many were overjoyed to have a variant that wouldn't be tied to a carrier, yet would be fully compatible with all four major carriers here in the states. Despite these unlocked versions' higher price tags, many picked them up in hopes of less bloat and quicker updates.

Unfortunately, while the unlocked models did come with fewer pre-installed apps, buyers were extremely let down in terms of updates. Not only did they not arrive more quickly, but they were actually being sent out more infrequently and much later than carrier models'.
