[Update: Fix out] Samsung will begin patching fingerprint scanner security flaw within 24 hours

Samsung really talked up the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10 when it launched. It was supposed to be faster and more secure than other methods. We knew the first part wasn't true soon after launch, but we only found out how easy it was to fool the sensor a few days ago. Cheap screen protectors could allow any fingerprint to unlock the S10 and Note 10 phones, but Samsung promised a quick update. Samsung has now pushed notifications to phones promising the OTA will start in about 24 hours.

Bank apps start blacklisting Galaxy S10 phones after discovery of fingerprint vulnerability

Just a few days ago, reports began circulating about how easily the security of the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series could be bypassed to unlock the device.  Samsung has promised to address the issue in an upcoming software update, but in the meantime, some banks have taken matters into their own hands by either preventing Galaxy S10 owners from downloading and using their apps from the Play Store or disabling the fingerprint log-in option.

[Update: Samsung statement] Galaxy S10 in-display fingerprint sensor reportedly rendered insecure by cheap accessory

According to a recent report making its rounds on the internet, the in-display fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S10 doesn't offer much in the way of security if you are using the wrong accessories. For one UK couple using an inexpensive "gel" screen protector (or case, it isn't immediately clear which), their cheap accessory compromised the phone's fingerprint recognition capabilities by allowing any finger to unlock the phone, eliminating the security offered by the in-display reader.

[Update: Available in US] Galaxy S10 series starts getting Android 10 with One UI 2.0 beta

After a couple of rounds of teasing and delays, Samsung has officially announced the beta release of its Android 10-based One UI 2.0, starting today. It apparently went live in South Korea over the weekend, and today’s development marks its availability outside Samsung’s home country. Only the Galaxy S10e, S10, and the S10+ are eligible for this program while the Galaxy S10 5G is slated to be enrolled separately.

Samsung One UI 2.0 beta with Android 10 hits a snag, delayed til mid-October

After teasing Galaxy S10 users with an early October debut of Android 10 beta with One UI 2.0, Samsung has delayed the rollout of the much-anticipated update. According to a Samsung Members community moderator in Korea, and later confirmed by Samsung corporate, the beta is now expected to roll out in mid-October.
