Samsung's Galaxy Note20 Ultra packs in plenty of high-end specs like a Snapdragon 865+, big 120Hz display, one of the biggest camera sensors you can get, plus a periscope-style telephoto camera, laser autofocus, and the well-known S Pen. But before you go dropping $1,300 on a pre-order, you might want to consider what you're looking for in a phone, and the OnePlus 8 Pro might also be on your radar. Read More
Bloatware on Android phones has been around for so long — especially on Samsung and Huawei phones — that it's hardly even news anymore. Even so, it was a huge surprise when we found out that OnePlus has involved itself in this dubious practice. The OxygenOS bloatware in question comes from probably the shadiest company of them all — Facebook. Starting with the OnePlus 8 series and continuing with the Nord, users have had to put up with a bunch of Facebook-owned apps and a few background services on their brand-new handsets, some of which cannot be uninstalled.
OnePlus’s debut truly wireless Buds are all set to go official alongside the Nord. But ahead of tomorrow’s unveiling, the company has been readying its existing flagship line to support the new accessory right from day one. The latest OxygenOS updates for the 8 and 8 Pro deliver not just the most recent Android security patches, but also introduce compatibility with the abundantly leaked Buds.
Just like with last year's Android 10 beta program, Google isn't the only company allowing people to try out the latest and greatest OS on their phones. OnePlus is one of several manufacturers with an opt-in Android 11 beta software track, and now people with a OnePlus 8 or 8 Plus can try out Beta 2. Read More
There's been an outsize and protracted hubbub over the OnePlus 8 Pro's color filter camera. It let users see through some thin plastics and other materials, including certain types of cloth — leading to worries about it granting "X-ray vision." It was never particularly effective at seeing through clothing, but nevertheless, OnePlus is rolling out a patch to stem potential abuse by limiting the camera's functionality. Read More
OnePlus has always been known for providing a lot of bang for your buck. Its recent devices may cost more than the original OnePlus One did, but they're also a lot more powerful. We called the OnePlus 8 Pro "the most phone you can get for the price," and its little sibling didn't fare too badly, either. Now the company is looking to offer up even more value with new deals every Wednesday in an effort called OnePlus Day. Read More
As anyone who's been in the market for a OnePlus 8 Pro recently will know, the phone has been out of stock in many markets for over a month. The shortage has gotten so drastic that they've been selling for hundreds over MSRP in the US. Luckily, OnePlus's supply issues seem to have subsided a bit, as the 256GB variant is back in stock on both OnePlus's site and Amazon. Read More
Each phone from OnePlus has three software tracks: the stable public builds that most people use, the experimental Open Betas, and finally the bleeding-edge Closed Beta program. If you love trying features before everyone else (and possibly running into serious bugs), OnePlus is now taking applications for joining the Closed Betas for the OnePlus 8 series. Read More
The OnePlus "Shelf" is back from the dead for OnePlus 8 series owners. After the company killed it in favor of Google Discover on the 8 and 8 Pro (a wise move, in our opinion), OnePlus has now found a way to bring it back as an optional feature with a swipe-down trigger in the latest OnePlus Launcher Beta. The latest OnePlus Camera beta (version 5.4.10) is all about speed. Faster sharing, fast burst mode photos, and faster video capture are among the new features, as well as a few additional filters that make use of the color filter camera on the OnePlus 8 Pro. First available with the Android 11 Beta on that phone and the regular OnePlus 8, it also works on those phones running Android 10 if you sideload the app. Read More
