OnePlus 6 and 6T receive another Android 10 Open Beta after tricky stable rollout

OnePlus usually provides its handsets with timely Android updates, though with the OnePlus 6 and 6T, it slipped up quite a bit. The devices got a stable Android 10 version in November, but the software turned out to be buggy, so OnePlus had to stop the rollout and started slowly pushing out a hotfix  — effectively leaving a majority of users on a four-month-old security patch level. It looks like the company is continuing to fix bugs and might be readying another stable point release soon as it has just launched Android 10 Open Beta 3 for the phones.

Security updates on the OnePlus 6 and 6T are an utter mess right now

OnePlus often prides itself on the solid software support it extends to its relatively small smartphone lineup, and rightly so. Handsets as old as the OnePlus 5 (the one with a 16:9 display, remember?) are confirmed to get Android 10, while this year’s 7 series was updated months ago. Even the OnePlus 7T came out running Android 10 in the same month Pixels got their stable builds. Two phones that couldn’t be a part of this flattering tale are last year’s OnePlus 6 and 6T that have been stuck on Android Pie while OnePlus is struggling to put their Android 10 packages together.

The official rollout of Android 10 has already started for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, but older OnePlus devices are still without the latest software. Last Friday, OnePlus pushed out an update for the 6 and 6T, bringing, among other things, the DC dimming feature from the OnePlus 7 Pro and previous Open Beta updates to the mainstream. OTAs rolled out over the weekend (sorry we missed it, I was on vacation) but in case you didn't get it or would prefer to manually flash, the company has posted downloads for the pair of updates today.
