Latest OP3/OP3T Open Beta adds a new notes app, December's security patch, and more

Even though most of the attention is on the 5 getting Oreo (while 5T owners still don't have an Android 8.0 beta), OnePlus is still going strong on last year's flagships. Both the 3 and 3T have gotten Open Beta 29 and 20, respectively. This update adds a new note-taking app, brings the phones up to the December security patch, addresses some bug fixes, and some other stuff.

One developer found an application intended for factory testing, and through some investigation and reverse-engineering, was able to obtain root access using it.

OnePlus releases new OP3/OP3T Open Beta, complete with awful new boot animation

I normally like covering the Open Betas that OnePlus puts out for its devices. Ever since the program launched last year, it's shown that the "underdog" Chinese manufacturer is cleaning up its act regarding updates (the OP2 incident notwithstanding). However, this time around, I'm left facepalming. Why, you may ask? Aside from the normal bug fixes and optimizations, OnePlus decided to change the boot animation... and I think that it's pretty terrible.

OnePlus has always been praised for having clean, near-stock software, and a big advantage of this is that updates are much easier to push out.
