MSI and BlueStacks bring Android games to desktops with support for 240fps

MSI and Android emulator BlueStacks positioned themselves as an alternative for Android gamers when they announced their collaboration on the MSI App Player back in June 2018. Even though Android code doesn't run natively on desktop machines, the developers claim speedier performance than on a Samsung Galaxy S10. Now, MSI has announced that the App Player will be able to display games in 240 FPS on supported hardware, a first in the Android world.

MSI Updates Its WindPad Tablet Line, Includes The Android Powered 100A

It seems that a lot of Android tablet news is coming out of Computex already - we've already seen the Padfone and Eee Pad MeMO 3D from ASUS, the ViewPad 7x and 10Pro from ViewSonic, and now, the WIndPad 100A from MSI.

The 10.1 inch WindPad 100A sports a 1280x800 IPS display with an unnamed ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processer under the hood, but we're guessing it's most likely the Tegra 2. It also packs 1GB RAM, up to 32GB of internal storage, SD card reader, and a USB port. It's said to be running "the latest version of Android", and while we're not sure if that means Android 3.0 or 3.1, we can safely say that it is running Honeycomb.

MSI Shows Off Its Android-Powered WindPad 100A

MSI announced two new tablets at CES 2011: the Android-powered WindPad 100A and the Windows-operated WindPad 100W.

A few months ago, MSI demoed its WindPad 110 at Computex. The device sported a 10" capacitive touch screen and was powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 2 chip. Engadget's hands-on demonstrated a fairly unpolished interface that needed a lot of work.

The newly rechristened WindPad 100A is a slim 10.1" device weighing in at 1.6 pounds and packing:

  • An ARM Cortex A8 chip (from an undisclosed vendor)
  • 1GB of RAM
  • A digital compass
  • A GPS Locator
  • G-Sensor gravity detection (protects the internal hardware in case the unit is dropped)
  • ALS light sensor (adjusts screen brightness according to the surrounding light source)
  • WiFi with a 3G option
  • USB and HDMI slots
  • Front and rear cameras

MSI estimates that the WindPad's battery will last about 8-10 hours on a single charge.
