You hear us talk a lot about manufacturers releasing the kernel source codes for their devices. Some resist hard, while others just take some time. In the case of the latter, Motorola released the Android 8.1 Oreo sources for the Moto G5 Plus over on its GitHub.

If you’re planning to buy one of Motorola’s newest handsets, you should be aware that you won’t get lengthy software support. Motorola is promising just one major Android upgrade for the new Moto G6 series, while the Moto E5 series may not get a major update at all.

Amazon has been running its Prime Exclusive program for some time now. Essentially, the company partners with phone manufacturers to offer noticeably lower prices on devices in exchange for preloaded Amazon apps and advertisements on the lock screen. However, it appears that these lockscreen ads have led to a security flaw on one Prime Exclusive device, the Moto G5 Plus.

Motorola is offering some nice discounts on several devices for an after-holiday sale, including a significant $100 savings on the Moto Z2 Play.Usually retailing for $499, an unlocked Moto Z2 Play with 64GB of storage is going for $399 at Motorola's website, in either dark gray or gold colors. Best Buy isn't offering the unlocked version, and even the unlocked version without a U.S. warranty is still $75 more expensive at Amazon. This Z2 Play also has a Snapdragon 626, 4GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch, 1080p AMOLED display, and a 3000mAH battery. It sports a 12MP rear camera and 5MP for selfies. It can also take advantage of the Moto Mod ecosystem of accessories, if that's your thing. In his original review of the Moto Z2 Play, AP's Ryan Whitwam evaluated the device as a decent phone, but not worth the price. With $100 off, maybe it feels even more decent.

Amazon's Prime Exclusive phones remain a popular option for people wanting to save money on phone purchases. While you have to put up with lock screen ads and the bootloader can't be unlocked, Prime phones are often much less expensive than the normal unlocked models. During this month, Amazon will be discounting select Prime Exclusive phones, as much as $50 off the usual prices.

The mass frenzy of Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales has ended, but there are still a few deals popping up for holiday shoppers. Motorola has now discounted most of its product catalog on its online store, including the Moto Z2 Play, Moto G5 Plus, Moto X4, Moto E4 Plus, and the original Moto Z.

The OnePlus 5T is without a doubt an enthusiast phone. And what good would an enthusiast phone be without an available custom recovery? TWRP has just added support for the 5T, as well as the Moto G5 Plus and a few other devices.

It's that time of year again. Knowing our audience, chances are that you're looking for some sort of gadget to purchase for yourself or someone else. Whether the smartphone being replaced is too old, too bootloopy, or just doesn't have all the features you want, we've got you covered with our choices for the best smartphones you can buy.

If you've been on the prowl for a nice sub-$200 phone, we've got one for you right here: the Moto G5 Plus. While this is older than the G5S Plus, the G5 Plus is also much more affordable and might even have a superior camera setup. Now you can grab a 32GB G5 Plus for just $169.99, a full $60 off its MSRP.In our Moto G5 Plus review, we called it 'the king of budget phones.' It sports a 5.2" 1080p LCD, a Snapdragon 625, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with microSD expansion, a 12MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie shooter, and a 3000mAh battery. The phone comes with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, and it's devoid of any Amazon apps since this isn't the Prime Exclusive model. In fact, the Prime Exclusive model is currently more expensive than this discounted standard model.Only the 2GB/32GB G5 Plus in Lunar Gray is discounted (the Fine Gold version is still at $229.99). Prime shipping is present, and this phone will work with virtually any US carrier. Hit the source link below to pick up a Moto G5 Plus of your very own.Source: Amazon

Back in the days when the Moto X could be used with one hand and Moto Maker was a cool new thing, Motorola was one of the best manufacturers with software updates. Since their skin is so minimal, anything else would be disappointing. But Motorola is not what it once was, and it's fallen behind in terms of software support. The Lenovo-owned company has just released its update roadmap for Android 8.0 Oreo.

Motorola's high-end phones haven't been my favorite devices for the last few years, but the budget lineup is fantastic. In fact, the Moto G5 Plus is probably the best phone you can get in its price range. It's even better if you have the version with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, but that's usually too spendy at $300. Today, it's about $60 cheaper—just $239.99, which is only $10 more than the base model. The Moto G5 Plus has a Snapdragon 625, a 5.2-inch 1080p LCD, a 12MP camera, and an excellent build of Android without a bunch of crapware. This phone is also unlocked for use on almost any mobile network, even Sprint and Verizon. The model on sale doubles the RAM and storage of the base model to 64GB and 4GB, respectively. The other specs remain unchanged.

Motorola, despite some strange missteps lately, is still king of the budget phone market in the west. You get some fantastic value with the G and E lines that is very difficult to beat, especially in the U.S. If you've been looking to pick a G5 up, you can grab the 32GB/2GB version for the low, low price of $179.99. That means you can save $50 off of the original MSRP.It's certainly worth noting that this is for the ad-free version, which sweetens the deal that much more. If you need a refresher on the Moto G5 Plus, be sure to check out Ryan's review. For $179.99, you're getting a 5.2" FHD IPS LCD display, Snapdragon 625, 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a fingerprint sensor, and a 3,000mAh battery. Other than perhaps the 2GB of RAM, that's a crazy awesome deal. This even beats the Deal Alert we brought you a few days ago by $20. So if you missed out on that sale, then fret not! This one is even better. Do bear in mind that only the Lunar Gray model is on sale, but if that's of no concern to you, then hit up the source link below.Source: Amazon

There are plenty of budget phones out there, and most of them aren't bad. However, the Moto G5 Plus is the most not bad I've seen. It usually starts at a very reasonable $230, but today B&H is selling the 32GB device for just $199.99 and the 64GB for $249.99.You're probably used to seeing the Moto G5 Plus at something of a discount on Amazon, but that's the ad-supported Prime edition phone. The one at B&H is the completely unencumbered phone. It's unlocked with support for all mobile networks. The 32GB phone with 3GB of RAM is going for $200, which is $30 off the regular price. The discount is a bit steeper for the version with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. That one is down to $250 from the regular $300 price.

Moto is still on a mission to confuse everyone with a multitude of devices that differ ever so slightly in specs and nomenclature. The latest is the Moto G5S Plus, a bigger version of the current Moto G5 Plus, which is a bigger version of the regular G5. See? Simple. We first heard about the G5S Plus last month when specs of the device leaked, but now it's official.

Just yesterday, during Amazon's hallowed Prime Day sales, the ad-laden version of this phone was on sale for $179.99. While that's a fantastic deal, some people just aren't OK with having their lock screen telling them to buy things. For those of us that might prefer a less corporate phone experience, or who prefer an unlockable bootloader, right now you can pick up the same 64GB Moto G5 Plus without ads for just 9.99, or $50 off. The G series has always been a great value. While ads bring the price down even lower, if you just can't stomach the minor intrusion, or you are desperate to flash a ROM, the version sold without Amazon's "Offers & Ads" might be more to your preference. And it's a great device. We didn't proclaim it the king of the budget phones for no reason, after all.For $249.99 you get a Snapdragon 625, 64GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, a 5.2" 1080p display, a 12MP camera, fingerprint reader, and Android 7.0 Nougat. For the price, the specs are quite reasonable. The only potential impediments to a good time might be Lenovorola's history with updates, the dated microUSB connector, and a lack of NFC. If you are excited to pick up an ad-free unit but were waiting for a deal to grab one, this is it.Source: Amazon

The Moto G5 Plus is one of the best budget phones you can get, and it's available cheaper if you get the Prime Exclusive version from Amazon with ads. However, this already good deal is even better today. Both capacities are on sale for an additional $30-60 off.The regular (non Prime) G5 costs $230 and $300 for the 32GB and 64GB versions, respectively. If you pick up the Prime versions, they're usually priced at $185 and $240. That's a good value, but now Amazon is knocking $30 off the cheaper version and a whopping $60 off the more expensive. So, the phone with 32GB of storage and 2GB of RAM is $154.99, and the one with 64GB/4GB is $179.99.Considering how close in price they are, I'd go with the $180 phone. It has ads, yes, but they aren't terribly intrusive. You get a full-screen ad on the lock screen when there are no notifications and a single line when there are. There are also some pre-loaded Amazon apps. Still, this is a lot of phone for not a lot of money. I wouldn't wait too long on this deal. It could sell out.Source: Amazon

Motorola's Moto G5 Plus came out not too long ago. Meeting with positive reviews, it kept the crown as the king of budget phones. It packs in a lot of good specs for a low price point, which is a well-known hallmark of the G series. As seems to be the company's trend lately, Motorola has released the kernel source code for the capable device.

We've gotten a few reports in recent days that Motorola's latest budget phone is hungry. Hungry for what, you may ask? SIM cards. Several reviews on Amazon allege the G5 Plus SIM card tray is defective and causes SIM cards to become lodged in the phone. Having a Moto G5 Plus at the ready, I'm struggling to figure out how anyone can get this wrong.

Motorola has gone through some big changes in the last few years; from its waning days of independence (with crummy phones), to the Google acquisition (with much better phones), and finally to being manhandled by Lenovo (with weird phones). One of Motorola's most important products through all of this has been the Moto G. The original Moto G boosted interest in budget devices by showing everyone they don't have to be terrible. Now, here we are with the fifth iteration—the Moto G5 Plus, a phone that can be yours for the low, low price of $230.

We already covered that Amazon will sell Prime-exclusive Moto G5 Plus models with lockscreen ads, but other retailers have begun to take pre-orders for the phone as well. Best Buy, Motorola, B&H, and Ting are now selling the G5 Plus, with a release date set for March 31.If you need a refresher, the Moto G5 Plus is the more-powerful of the two 2017 Moto G phones. It has a 5.2" 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 3, a Snapdragon 625 processor, 12MP back camera, 5MP front camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery. The G5 Plus is available in 'Lunar Gray' and 'Fine Gold, and on top of that, you can pick between 2GB RAM/32GB of storage and 4GB RAM/64GB of storage.Standard pricing for the 2GB RAM/32GB model is $229.99, and the 4GB RAM/64GB is $299.99. For your convenience, we've listed every model from every retailer we can find. If you find more stores selling the G5 Plus, let us know in the comments.
