Motorola Officially Unveils Two Models Of The Moto G 2015: 5-Inch Screen, Snapdragon 410, 13MP Camera, 1 Or 2GB Of RAM, 8 Or 16GB Of Storage

Motorola's press event is underway, but various portions of the company have already revealed the star of the show: the new Moto G. The 2015 version of Moto's mid-range device is a mix of old and new, keeping some of the more affordable portions of the phone intact while upgrading some of the most important elements. Specifically, the 2015 Moto G offers optional extra RAM and storage and improves its predecessor's lackluster camera to a 13-megapixel model.

Here's the breakdown: the phone keeps the 5-inch 720p screen from the 2014 version, but upgrades the internals with a Snapdragon 410 processor from Qualcomm and a 13MP rear camera (5MP on the front), the same camera as the Nexus 6, plus a color-balancing flash.

Motorola's Native FM Radio App Updated With Material Design, Music Recording, Sleep Timer, And Usability Improvements

If you've got a Moto G or Moto E, your phone has an FM radio built right into the design. Motorola's official app for using the FM tuner isn't much to write home about, but it's become considerably better today. The updated app (version 02.00.0045, according to the Play Store) updates the player's user interface to a fresh Material Design theme, now with a fetching teal and white color scheme.

Unlocked Versions Of The Original Moto G LTE Are Getting Android 5.1 In The United States

The original Moto G started a revolution for mid-range phones - specifically by introducing the idea that they didn't have to suck. Motorola is still keeping the first-gen Moto G updated, and today (or late last night), unlocked versions of the Moto G LTE in the United States started receiving the over-the-air update to Android 5.1. This was pretty much expected, since Motorola dropped the kernel source code for the update last week and tested it in soak before that.

Dang. That's a nice photo, Joshua Worth.

Motorola's phones tend to stick very close to Android's open source code, especially once you get out of the flagship range.

[OTA Download] Moto G Google Play Edition OTA To Android 5.1 Has Begun Rolling Out

If you're the owner of a Google Play Edition Moto G, your update to Android 5.1 has begun rolling out. Though these things go out in stages, you can always check manually for an update, or if you're too impatient, you can download and flash the OTA manually using the link to Google's server at the bottom of this post.

The build is LMY47M and the OTA clocks in at a fairly hefty 171 MB. As for what's new, you get all the assorted goodies that Google has added in 5.1 with the plain stock Android experience from Nexus devices. There are presently no rumblings of any other GPE devices receiving Android 5.1, but since they have all historically come around the same time, it's probably safe to say we'll start seeing them sooner rather than later.
