Quick note, LG Viper owners: If you're getting an update request this afternoon, don't get too excited. The newest software addition isn't any flavor of Jelly Bean. It's just a small update that addresses "LTE network acquisition improvements", which probably means it'll help you when transitioning from Sprint's old and busted 3G network to the new LTE hotness.
It's hard to believe that any high(er) end phone released within the last six months shipped with Gingerbread, but sadly, that's the case. Sprint's first LTE smartphone, the LG Viper, was one such device. Thankfully, the company is now pushing out an OTA update that will bump the Android version up to 4.0. It may not be the latest and greatest that Google has to offer, but it's still a huge improvement over Gingerbread.
The day that many Sprint customers have been waiting for is finally here: the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. That's not the only new device to hit The Now Network today, either - the LG Viper and LG Optimus Elite also join the ranks of new offerings on Sprint.
We've been waiting eagerly for Sprint to get on board the LTE train and now that it's finally happening with the Now Network's version of the Galaxy Nexus, Wirefly is stepping in to make the deal even more attractive: the Galaxy Nexus is available today for $150 with a new account. That's half the price of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and $50 off the phone directly from Sprint.
As promised just over a week ago, the LG Viper is now officially available for pre-order via Sprint. While it may not be as exciting as the other hotly-anticipated phone coming to Sprint any day now, the budget-conscientious Viper packs some respectable specs for its class, and carries the distinction of being Sprint's first LTE phone:
Looks like Sprint's first LTE handset, the LG Viper, will be available for pre-order from Sprint beginning on April 12th for a reasonable $99 after $50 mail-in-rebate, and will be available in all channels "later this month."
Going on a tip received from within Sprint's Product Development division, S4GRU, a site pretty well connected with Sprint's insiders, has reported that the third largest wireless network in the US is aiming to get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on shelves beginning April 15th.
