I've now been using the LG V20 for about two days (two half days, one full day), and I'm ready to give you some thoughts and impressions on the newest high-end device from LG.
I didn't review the V10 - Android Police editor emeritus Cameron Summerson had that job - so I'm using the V20 with a fresh set of eyes. What I do know about the V10 is that fans of that phone loved it. Not since the LG G2 and G3 had I seen quite such a positive reaction to an LG smartphone, and I think that had to do with the V10's "no nonsense" approach to the large smartphone market. Read More
After more than a few leaks, the LG V20 is now official. Revealed less than an hour ago in San Francisco, the V10 successor maintains the G5's design and many of its specs while adding several touches that make LG's V series devices unique. Read More
We've seen some renders of the upcoming LG V20 already, but there's a new one floating around the internet now courtesy of Evan @evleaks Blass. This image looks more official than the last ones, and the design of the chin looks less modular than before. Perhaps this is evidence LG isn't looking to continue that particular boondoggle. LG has just announced that its upcoming V20 (of which renders have just leaked) will feature a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC. For anyone that appreciates sound quality, this is great news. Last year, LG wowed audiophiles with the ESS SABRE 9018 DAC and 9602 Headphone Amplifier it put into the V10. However, audio quality suffered on the G5. It sure didn't help that the Bang & Olufsen "Friends" module pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth.
The company's press release describes a Quad DAC as something that delivers concert-like audio. LG claims that this DAC is better than normal ones in that it can reduce up to 50% of ambient noise levels. Read More
LG has acknowledged the existence of the V20 and set a date for the reveal (September 6th). We have yet to see an official image of the phone, but renders leaked by Android Authority purport to show the V20 from all angles. It looks a lot like the LG G5, right down to the removable (probably modular) chin. Read More
It's the new phone season of the year, part deux. After seeing the G5, S7 and S7 Edge, HTC M10, and more flagships at the beginning of the year, we're now ready for the second wave of releases. It started with the Note7, but not one to let its thunder get stolen, LG is quickly following up with the V20.
And the hype train is on. LG already teased the V20 a couple of days ago, saying it will be released before the end of the quarter — September being a good approximation — and it will be the first Android phone to ship with Nougat. Read More
LG has been having problems in the wake of poor LG G5 sales. The Korean smartphone maker has already given some execs the boot, moved others to different areas, and formed a new smartphone oversight group. LG is pinning its hopes for turning 2016 around on the V20, which it has now officially acknowledged on its Korean site. The V20 will be out in September with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
