So, there's this phone on AT&T called the LG Thrill 4G. While it's virtually identical to the Optimus 3D in nearly every way, it has been running Android 2.2 since release, whereas its twin brother has been on Android 2.3 for four months now. Finally, though, Thrill 4G owners are getting treated to a taste of Gingerbread, albeit with one last hurdle to jump through.

The minds behind CyanogenMod have done it again, bringing nightly updates to several LG Optimus variants, and adding official CM7 support for the Epic 4G (not to be confused with Sprint's Galaxy SII variant).
Skype for Android, an app that gets almost as much love as it does hate, was updated to version 2.5 a few minutes ago. Because the last update unofficially opened up Skype to all 2.2+ devices, this time around Skype simply listed 13 more devices as whitelisted and approved for video chat capabilities:
Continuing with the trend of high-end Android devices getting speculative release dates, LG's 3D smartphone, the Optimus 3D, has been given a release date of June 6 by online UK retailer Clove. They say that the device should be on their shelves by that date, but gives the caveat that this information is "subject to change - but accurate at this time."
We have known for some time about a high-end 3D smartphone from LG that was among the manufacturer's upcoming high-end releases. Up to this point, the glasses-free phone had been referred to as the LG Optimus 3D and (along with the G2x and the G-Slate on T-Mobile) we knew it would be hitting shelves within the next several months. While the release date is still a mystery, we now know that it will be known as the LG Thrill 4G and will be exclusive (at least at launch) to AT&T in the US.
In what's sure to be a hit with hardware nerds, AnandTech has run a suite of benchmarks on 27 different devices. The line-up is dominated by Android, but also includes the iPhone 3GS (both on 4.1 and 4.2.1), iPhone 4, iPad, Blackberry Torch, and the WP7-powered HTC Surround. The results? Broadly speaking, Android comes out looking damn good. As for the dual cores - well, as you'd expect, they performed even better.
Earlier today at MWC, LG officially unveiled its most powerful upcoming smartphone: the Optimus 3D. We've already heard of the Optimus 3D before, and even witnessed both decent and disastrously cheesy ads LG put out ahead of the release, but what we didn't know is that the Optimus 3D would end up being the most powerful smartphone currently on the market.
The upcoming 3D phone from LG, Optimus 3D, may be cool, with its glasses-free 3D and a dual-core CPU, but it certainly didn't stop the company from producing one of the cheesiest/worst commercials we've ever seen.
Though I was initially quite skeptical of 3D on phone/tablet-sized devices, it seems that at least one manufacturer has pulled it off - so I'll give LG the benefit of the doubt with their upcoming Optimus 3D. Just as the device's name suggests, it will feature a (glasses-free) three-dimensional display in addition to dual cameras for 3D photography. But we already knew that; what we didn't know - up until now - was how LG planned to market the device.
