[Weekend Poll] Do You Actually Want A Display With A Resolution Greater Than 1080p In Your Next Phone?

[Weekend Poll] Do You Actually Want A Display With A Resolution Greater Than 1080p In Your Next Phone?

LG's G3 has a lot of pixels. Like, a lot a lot. 534 of them per inch, if you want to get precise. How sharp is it? It's pretty damn sharp.

DSC04176

Yes, this actually is the G3's screen. Wowzers.

But is there any practical, even technical, reason to keep pushing on the pixel density front in smartphones? Or will QHD finally be our stopping point? Should 1080p have been? Do you care?

LG G3 Review: The G2 Gets A Proper Successor

LG G3 Review: The G2 Gets A Proper Successor

LG's G2 was one of the most cultishly-loved smartphones of 2013, to an extent that, frankly, befuddled me. It had a terribly ugly software layer, felt cheaply built, and ticked almost no boxes in terms of innovation. The G2 was a specification junkie's wet dream, and that's exactly the sort of buyer the phone ended up attracting. Appearance, software features, and design aren't high on such people's lists.

Even in the face of criticism, though, success with a group like that isn't something you just let go.

Weekend Poll: Galaxy S5, G3, One M8, Or Xperia Z2?

Weekend Poll: Galaxy S5, G3, One M8, Or Xperia Z2?

As we near the end of spring, so too nears the end of the mainstream release cycle for four of the biggest Android OEMs on the planet. Samsung, LG, HTC, and Sony all have competitive flagship devices on the market now, and none of them clearly edges out the others in a holistic sense. They're all very good smartphones in an extremely competitive product category.

LG G3 Confirmed On AT&T, T-Mobile, And Sprint [Update: Verizon Too]

As is common with smartphone announcements, LG's G3 event was pretty cringe-worthy, but the phone looks intriguing, right? Those of you in the US will probably be able to get it on all carriers eventually, but so far AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have signaled their intention to carry the G3 this summer.

Sprint is touting HD voice and Spark (tri-band LTE) support. The Now network is also getting the gold version of the device as a US exclusive, which I know will make you all very excited.

LG G3 Gets Official: 5.5" 2560x1440 Screen, Snapdragon 801, 2-3GB Of RAM, MicroSD And Removable Battery, And A 13MP Camera With Laser Auto-Focus

LG didn't do much of a job keeping the flagship G3 under wraps - pretty much every detail has been leaked in some capacity before today. But the press event in London made it official and laid the phone bare for all to see. LG's headliner for 2014 bests headliners from both Samsung and HTC with a 5.5", 2560x1440 screen boasting a DPI of 538. Unfortunately the oh-so-shiny case is only "metallic" (read: plastic), and not true metal like the HTC One family.

How Big Is LG's 5.5" QHD Monster, The G3? Maybe Not As Big As You'd Guess [Size Comparison Mockup]

How Big Is LG's 5.5" QHD Monster, The G3? Maybe Not As Big As You'd Guess [Size Comparison Mockup]

With today's leak of many of the LG G3's specifications in an internal presentation, it seems all but confirmed at this point that the company's new flagship will sport a 5.5" QHD display. That's big. Like, really big. That's only two tenths of an inch smaller than the display on the Note 3, the current phablet of choice.

This, understandably, has some people hesitant: why is LG going so big with the G3?
