LineageOS ends official Nougat builds as Pie support approaches

LineageOS is one of the most popular custom ROMs available, with somewhere around two million active installations. It typically takes a while for the project to update to newer versions of Android, since development is largely done by maintainers in their spare time. Six months after the public release of Android 9 Pie, it looks like LineageOS is about ready to make the jump — but not before dropping older devices.

HTC's revenue dropped to an all-time low in 2018, down 62% from 2017

I don't need to tell you that HTC is in dire financial straits, but I'm still going to tell you how dire because wow. HTC just released its year-end 2018 numbers, and things are looking bleak. HTC took in just 23.74 billion TWD ($770 million) during 2018, the lowest in all its years as a public company.

Using the HTC G1, 10 years later: 2008's smartphone is effectively a dumbphone in 2018

As you may have noticed, this post originally appeared on Android Police earlier in 2018. As much of the AP team is away for the holidays this week, we're showcasing some of our favorite posts of the year. Enjoy!

Going into this series, I hoped I’d get back to the T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream and be able to romantically wax about where Android came from. And the first HTC phone to get Andoid Pie is... the U11 Life

The update to Android Pie was supposed to be faster in the wake of Project Treble, but most phones are still languishing on Oreo. LineageOS drops support for 30 devices, including the Redmi Note 3 and Moto G4

The LineageOS custom ROM used to support just about every phone imaginable, but lately the project has been going for quality over quantity. Oreo (15.1) builds have to fulfill stricter requirements to receive official status, and now Lineage is dropping support for 30 unmaintained phones and tablets.

HTC's 'blockchain' phone is up for pre-order, but you have to pay in crypto

Following last year's bitcoin-led explosion in cryptocurrency value and media exposure, the topic has more or less left the public consciousness at large. Crypto still has its share of die-hard proponents, though, and HTC is going after them directly with the Exodus 1, which you can now pre-order — but only if you've got bitcoin or Ether to pony up.
