Another HTC Phone Hits The FCC – Slider With Keyboard and Optical Trackpad

Well it is about time for another Android phone leak, it has been almost a week or so since the last one.

This time we have a new HTC phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the standard navigation buttons and also an optical trackpad. Everything looks pretty standard about this phone aesthetically speaking. As for the hardware hidden inside, not a lot is known about it yet.

Model name PC70110, HTC’s new phone has a 4 row QWERTY keyboard which, if you are coming from something like the G1 which has a sexy 5 row keyboard, is a bit of a bummer.

HTC Desire Root Instructions + Apps2SD Now Live

Yesterday, we reported on an exciting announcement for all HTC Desire owners - @PaulOBrien managed to root the device and promised detailed instructions to be posted today.

Well, he's backed the promise up with action and as of this morning, full instructions have been posted.

Paul notes that HTC made it much harder to access key partitions and write any data to them, compared to, say, the Nexus One. This made the process of rooting extremely complicated and left it a quite crippled (he's still working on uncrippling it).

HTC Desire, Legend, And Possibly Incredible Rooted By MoDaCo.com Founder PaulOBrien

HTC Desire

HTC Desire didn't last long - it was rooted (see here for an explanation and benefits of having your Android phone rooted) today by @PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com - a forum dedicated to rooting and customizing mobile devices, similar to xda-developers.com.

Paul, who had claimed he was confident he could root the Desire earlier this month, was away for about 2 weeks. His return today was accompanied by the following photo, clearly showing a program called Superuser Permissions present on his Desire:

While the root method is currently not yet available, Paul promised to post it by tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28th.

HTC's New Espresso Sense UI In A Detailed Video Review, Expected On T-Mobile myTouch Slide This Summer

Espresso UI

If you haven't heard yet, HTC has been developing a new flavor of its own flavor of another flavor of Android called Espresso.

Espresso is an interface built on top of HTC's flagship Sense UI and is expected to make its first appearance in the wild on the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch Slide. We covered the phone and the UI when both of them leaked online.

Espresso Build Leaked Online

Yesterday, GamerCore from AndroidAndMe.com got his hands on an Espresso build leaked by Binary100100 from xda-forums and loaded it onto his G1 after zachattack052 and Domenuk ported it to the myTouch/G1.

Google Cancels Plans For Verizon Nexus One, Recommends The Droid Incredible Instead

If you were waiting for the Nexus One to hit Verizon anytime soon, the bad news is that you can wave goodbye to that ever happening as Google updated their phone sales website today, and the Verizon Nexus One is officially off the list.

The good news, however, is that instead of the N1, Google recommends you buy the Droid Incredible, calling it ‘a powerful Android phone and similarly feature-packed cousin of the Nexus One.’

Shortly after the changes were made to the site, the Boy Genius Report published a statement by Google that read

We won’t be selling a Nexus One with Verizon, and this is a reflection of the amazing innovation happening across the open Android ecosystem.

Many Secrets Still Buried In The Nexus One To Be Discovered Later. Secret One Unlocked: Nexus One Now Does Wireless-N (802.11n)

The other day I was reading a great roundup of projected and wanted features in the upcoming Android 2.2 Froyo release, over at AndroidAndMe. The author, Taylor Wimberly, was going over what he thought was likely to be included next and then mentioned something about the Nexus One that instantly intrigued me. He said:

I spoke with Google’s Eric Tseng during CES and he told me there were many secrets left in the Nexus One that we would discover later.

Android 2.1 Update For The European HTC Hero Delayed. Again. To June. Of 2011 (OK, Not That Last Part)

Earlier today, TechRadar broke the unfortunate news that HTC Hero owners in Europe will have to wait even longer to get their hands on Android 2.1 than was expected. Despite originally being expected within the next week or so, it has been confirmed by HTC that the update has been delayed yet again, this time until June. In a statement HTC said:

Verizon Shipping Bug – A Few HTC Incredibles Shipped Early

The date 4/20 is usually associated with things of mellow nature, and apparently some of Verizon’s employees or the shipping system itself seems to have been affected by it - a few lucky people who pre-ordered their HTC Incredibles got notices saying it would be delivered 4/20, and sure enough there are reports of these units being received.

What Is Going On?

It is a bit confusing as to what is actually happening right now in regards to the HTC Incredible.

HTC Gives T-Mobile myTouch Slide's Sense UI An Espresso Boost

The T-Mobile MyTouch Slide just can’t get enough of the camera. We’ve already seen it in three color configurations, and now the good gents at TmoNews have let loose some screenshots of the [sexy?] new HTC Sense revamp, dubbed Espresso.

lockscreen

I’m not sure I’m exactly thrilled with the new ‘bubbly’ icons that they’re using – in my opinion it gives them a cheap, and quite literally, plastic look. They seem to be pushing wood grain and warmer, natural colors in this version over the more industrial/streamlined/modern look of the current HTC Sense UI.
