Google adds Pixel 3a to list of enterprise-ready Android phones

We've covered the Android Enterprise Recommended program a few times in the past — it's a list of phones and tablets that Google recommends for use in companies. All of the devices in the program are running a recent version of Android, receive regular security updates, and work with zero-touch enrollment. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL have now joined the party.

Google Pixel 3a ad challenges the (i)Phone X’s price and camera

Google Pixel 3a ad challenges the (i)Phone X’s price and camera

Google took an unprecedented step in the smartphone industry and launched its new midrange phones Pixel 3a and 3a XL for half the price of its flagship while still retaining the same camera quality the regular Pixels are loved for. Of course, the company didn't miss the chance to rub that fact into its competitors' noses and launched an ad campaign comparing the fictional $999 "Phone X" with the $399 Pixel 3a, implying that it takes way better pictures in the dark.

iFixit teardown claims the Pixel 3a is the most repairable Google phone in years

iFixit teardown claims the Pixel 3a is the most repairable Google phone in years

Just about every recent flagship phone is a nightmare to repair, from the Galaxy S10 to to the Huawei P20 Pro. As it turns out, building phones out of unibody glass with lots of glue and solder doesn't make it easy to replace the battery. However, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL appear to be a nice change from pace, as iFixit's new teardown guides claim both phones aren't too daunting to fix.

Pixel 3a and 3a XL review: They make almost any phone under $500 look bad

Pixel 3a and 3a XL review: They make almost any phone under $500 look bad

The Pixel 3a, Google’s new entry-level smartphone starts at an attractive $399, and comes in only two configurations: regular and extra large. The 3a XL is the phone I’ve been using for over a week now, and it costs a bit more, at $479. But that seems eminently reasonable for the larger 6” screen and 3700mAh battery the extra $80 net you. Otherwise, there really aren’t any noteworthy differences: both phones have 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM (yes, yes, I know), Snapdragon 670 processors, and identical cameras. And no doubt, many people’s first question with a cheaper version of any phone will be “what am I giving up?”

T-Mobile won't support RCS messaging on the Pixel 3 or 3a

T-Mobile won't support RCS messaging on the Pixel 3 or 3a

The text messages we all used over the years are archaic and clunky, but RCS promises to modernize messaging with features like read receipts and file transfers. However, implementing RCS through the carriers has been an utter mess. Case in point: T-Mobile says the new Pixel 3a and 3a XL won't have RCS support on its network. We can safely assume the existing Pixel 3 and 3 XL (also now available from T-Mobile) will be the same.

Google's new Pixel 3a and 3a XL launched today, and not only are they affordable, they're legitimately great. You probably don't have a Pixel 3a yet, but you can already download its factory images from Google

Google's Pixel 3a and 3a XL were only released today, but already factory images are available for download. Odds are prospective customers don't have either of the new mid-range phones just yet, but if you're the sort to tear into images looking for titillating tidbits or a developer looking to get an early edge on rooting or ROMing, they're free for the taking.
