[PSA] Parents, Don't Get Suckered Into Buying The Toys-R-Us Tabeo Tablet For Your Kids

[PSA] Parents, Don't Get Suckered Into Buying The Toys-R-Us Tabeo Tablet For Your Kids

For some unknown reason, the tech world spent a lot of time over the weekend talking about an upcoming Toys-R-Us tablet for kids called the Tabeo. I'm assuming this is partly because the Wall Street Journal felt the subject was worth covering; past that, I honestly can't put my finger on why this caught anyone's attention. We decided to skip covering this rumor for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is because we wanted to wait for the official PR and spec sheet for the device.

Google Wallet Is Discontinuing The Google Prepaid Card, You Have Until October 17th 2012 To Use Remaining Balance

Well, that just came right the flip out of nowhere. Google just sent out an email informing Google Wallet users that, as of September 17th, you will no longer be able to add funds to your Google Prepaid Card. After that, you have one month to spend any remaining balance, before it's no longer available. You can still receive a refund for the balance here, though, so Google's not just stealing your money.

Google Drive Update For Android Brings Improved Presentation Viewing, Basic Table Support In Docs, And More

Before I get your hopes up, no they haven't improved spreadsheets yet. However, that is on the way. What is arriving now, though, is the ability to add comments to your documents, view tables, and improved Google presentations viewing support. You'll even get speaker notes and the ability to swipe between slides.

There are more features on their way. Here at Android Police HQ, we've been eagerly awaiting proper spreadsheet editing (which is currently horrible to an unusable degree), and Google has seen fit to name check that very feature in its "More to come..."

[How-To] Download And Manually Install The Jelly Bean Update (Build FH05) For The Sprint Galaxy Nexus

The Jelly Bean update started rolling out to the Sprint variant of the Galaxy Nexus three short days ago, but if you still haven't gotten it or are rooted and have been waiting to install it manually, you can now grab it directly from Google's servers.

  • You must be on the latest Sprint OTA (FG01).
  • You must be running a custom recovery, have an unlocked bootloader with the stock recovery, or be rooted with a stock/locked device.

Sprint Confirms: Nexus S 4G Owners Also Receiving Jelly Bean Update Today, September 6th

Just earlier today, we found Sprint documents that confirmed the Galaxy Nexus variant on the Now Network would be receiving Jelly Bean today. Now, a Sprint employee has confirmed on its community message board that the Nexus S rollout will begin today. As with the GNex update, this will be an OTA, so no, refreshing over and over won't get it to you any faster.

Of course, it's still a reminder that CDMA Nexii get the short end of the stick.

Sprint Galaxy Nexus And Nexus S 4G Variants Could Receive Jelly Bean Update As Soon As September 6th

CDMA-based Nexuses (Nexii?) tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to timely updates. The promise of the Nexus is that you'll always have the latest Android experience just the way Google imagines it. While the international version of the Galaxy Nexus has had Jelly Bean for a while, Sprint's been left in the cold. Until, tomorrow, September 6th, if Android Central's source is correct.

Here's the email that a tipster sent in:

To Sprint Business Sales

Software updates for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (L700) and Nexus S 4G will be available beginning Thursday, 9.6.12.

Google Wins Multi-User Face Unlock Patent, Further Teases Our Multi-User Dreams

Google Wins Multi-User Face Unlock Patent, Further Teases Our Multi-User Dreams

Today it was learned, through a US Patent and Trademark Office filing, that Google has been granted a patent concerning the logging in of multiple users by facial recognition.

Typically, the granting of yet another tech patent wouldn't be extraordinarily interesting news. But given the fact that Google's latest patent relates to multiple user support, and the fact that code meant for multiple user support has been sitting right under our noses in AOSP for some time now, patent number 8,261,090 is definitely worth discussing.

[Update: Winners!] Giveaway: Win One Of Three 16GB Nexus 7s From Android Police And NVIDIA

So, the long awaited title from Phosphor Games Horn is now available in the Play Store. It's an epic tale of a young boy who awakes to find himself in a Pylon-laden world. It's his job to destroy the beasts and turn them back into their former (human) selves. And it's awesome. Don't take my word for it though - check out our full review right here.

Horn has also been optimized for Tegra 3 devices, which really brings the environments and characters to life.
