Chainfire Issues A Quick Root Fix For The Latest Lollipop Preview Builds On The Nexus 5 And Nexus 7

Technically the Developer Preview builds of Android L that Google issued are meant only for, well, developers. But of course a ton of regular users have downloaded them to try out Lollipop, and those users tend to be the same ones that like to use root apps. The updated Android 5.0 preview builds for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 issued yesterday broke the existing root functions, so SuperSU developer Chainfire issued a quick fix.

Google Promises New Fix For The Nexus 5 'mm-qcamera-daemon' CPU Bug In The Next Version Of Android

Google has been wrestling with a series of strange and not too uncommon bugs with a part of the camera subsystem on the Nexus 5 called mm-qcamera-daemon. Without this component, the camera on this device won't function, but sometimes it goes wonky and drains the battery. A Googler has just marked this issue as "future release" in the AOSP issue tracker, meaning it should be fixed when Android L rolls out.

Sprint Sends The Nexus 5 To The End-Of-Life Underworld, But No One Cares Because Nexus

According to a source inside of Sprint, the wireless carrier has officially placed the LG Nexus 5 on the end-of-life list. That means that Sprint won't be promoting the N5 in its stores, though any stock that's still in retailers or sales partners will probably remain on sale in at least some capacity. It also means that Sprint won't be sending out any more standard software updates to the phone.

Of course, that's not as big a deal for the Nexus 5 as for other devices, thanks to the developer status of the phone.

Several UI Refinements And Another 'LMP' Mention Spotted In Recent Nexus 5 Android L Build LRW66E

Releasing the L preview was an important leap forward for Android as an ecosystem, but, outside of a single almost meaningless update, we're probably not going to see any new builds up until the final L release. That's a pretty significant shift from the usual warranty coverage on the Play Store and elsewhere, which tends to cover a replacement or repair only if the unit is defective or malfunctioning.
