Some Android devices are cool; they feature powerful processors, sleek designs, and cutting-edge technology that make you feel like you are holding the future. Then there are their peculiar counterparts, tablets in the Android family that feel half-baked at their best. These underdogs have been trying to steal the show, but despite their brave efforts and years of existence, they still find themselves on the weird side rather than basking in the glory of tablet greatness. From odd shapes to meaningless functions, here are five Android tablets that might have missed the memo on cutting the tablet stardom race.

Buying a new USB-C hub: Lessons learned

Cable length and position, form factor, ports, everything matters

By

A couple of months ago, I only had one USB-C hub, a simple Moshi adapter that I've owned since 2018 and that offers HDMI, USB-C and USB-A ports. But I got tired of carrying around a separate MicroSD USB-C reader, so I thought I'd buy a fully-featured hub with all the ports I needed. My husband needed one too because of the demands of his new job. Somehow, a simple purchase or two turned into a USB-C hub experimentation, and we now find ourselves with a bunch of hubs that we've either bought or received for free (through his work or mine).

There's no stopping Chromebooks from dominating the world

Despite a slowdown in PC growth, Chromebook sales continue to surge

Chromebooks have proven to be terrific machines for students — or really, just about anyone working from home these days. Chromebooks have seen tremendous sales over the past year, with whopping 275% year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2021. While growth has now slowed, Chromebook sales continue to do strongly in Q2 2021.

Chrome OS devices also run Android, or at least a big enough chunk of Android's base to get apps running alongside Chrome's browser tabs. But you might not have given much thought to exactly what version of Android your Chromebook uses. After all, it's not immediately relevant for most of a Chrome OS device's functions: that's handled by the larger Chrome OS, which is frequently updated by Google along with the browser.

Every new Chromebook and Chromebox announced at CES 2021

A handful of neat devices to look forward in 2021

CES 2021 has come and gone, and with it came a slew of announcements showcasing cool and wacky gadgets like LG's Rollable smartphone and Chamberlain's $3,000 smart pet door, coming later this year. Typically, not many Chromebooks are announced at the event as they are a niche product in a broad spectrum of laptops, and this year was no exception. But here, we've compiled a list of all the new Chromebooks announced at CES 2021 for your convenience, so let's jump right in.

Dell just announced the first LTE Chromebook in ages

It's aimed at the education market and unfortunately looking the part

The demand for Chromebooks has skyrocketed over the last year thanks to the global pandemic with so many people working and studying from home. Unfortunately, not everyone has the privilege to rely on a stable Wi-Fi connection, which can be catastrophic for kids in remote learning environments. That's where Dell wants to come in with its new Chromebook 3100, its first education-focused Chrome OS machine to come with an optional mobile network connection.

Demand for cheap but reliable PCs has never been higher since the global pandemic forced students across the country to shift to distance learning. Thanks to the affordability and dependability of Chromebooks, institutions are moving to Google's platform to bring students online, leading to tremendous sales growth worldwide.

Dell reveals two new Latitude Chromebooks with 10th-gen Intel Core processors

They're designed for enterprise use, but will also be available through direct sales

Dell has been producing Chromebooks for years, though most of them have been focused on corporate deployments rather than use by individuals. Today the company revealed its new Latitude 7410 Chromebook Enterprise lineup, which includes a traditional laptop and a 2-in-1. Like the majority of Dell's Chromebooks, they are being targeted at business use, but will also be available through direct sales channels.

If the Samsung Chromebook deal we covered earlier this week was still a bit too pricey for your liking, another more affordable option has just come across our digital desk. From now through the end of today, you can pick up a brand new Dell 2-in-1 11.6" Chromebook for just 9 (0 off) at Best Buy.

We reviewed the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 last year, and while it's a bit bulkier than the average Chromebook, it's incredibly well-built and offers a great Chrome OS experience. Now you can buy it for just $349.00 from Best Buy, a savings of $200 from the original MSRP.

Among Android tablet manufacturers, few make premium tablets as nice as the Galaxy Tab S series from Samsung. If you had decided to skip out on the Galaxy Tab S4 earlier due to its high price, then you may want to take a look again. Several stores — Samsung, Dell, Amazon, and Best Buy — are selling the WiFi 64GB Galaxy Tab S4 at its lowest price ever of $450, 31% off its MSRP.When the Galaxy Tab S4 came out last year, we liked it for its gorgeous 10.5" AMOLED screen, massive 7,300 mAh battery, and its low weight. As a media consumption device, the Galaxy Tab S4 excels with its 2560 x 1600 high-contrast HDR screen, Dolby Atmos speakers, and its 16:10 aspect ratio. Plus, it officially supports microSD cards up to 400GB for further expansion of your picture and video libraries, something you can't do with iPads.

It can be hard to find a larger Chromebook with good specifications, but the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 fills that niche. We reviewed the Inspiron Chromebook 14 back when it was released and found it to be a very competent offering for the most part. One of our main qualms, the $599 price tag, has been addressed with this deal; the 9 figure that Best Buy is offering is $200 under the launch price and $150 less than current MSRP.

For reasons unknown to me, most Chromebooks larger than 13 inches usually have extremely low-end hardware. The 14-inch Asus Chromebook C423 has a dreadful Intel Celeron N3350 processor, and the Acer Chromebook 15 has a slightly better Pentium N4200 CPU. If you've been waiting for a big Chromebook with decent hardware, Dell might have the laptop for you.

It's that time of year, folks. The holidays are nigh upon us, which means it's time for all those retailers to do their darndest to get you to give them money. This deal is on the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14, a 2-in-1 ChromeOS laptop with stylus support. Best Buy is knocking $50 off the $599.99 MSRP.

Thanks to the IFA 2018 trade show in Berlin last week, we now have several new Chrome OS options available to us. Lenovo announced three different Chromebooks, including a higher-end model with a 4K screen that Ryan took a closer look at, and Acer unveiled a follow-up to its popular Chromebook 14, although I wasn’t overly impressed by the quality of the pre-production hardware I got my hands on.

When I see the name "Dell," I always think: practical, reliable, affordable, and probably looks like a tank. This new Dell Inspiron Chromebook, however, aims to change that just a little bit by adding premium features to the company's line-up of Chrome OS laptops.

Dell is having a "Black Friday in July" sale. Technically, it's actually in Early Access phase, with the actual sale coming in about three days. We won't complain about the dumb name, though, because there are some great deals being offered here. Those include the Bose QC25 for $169, the Jaybird Freedom F5 for $50, and more.

There aren't many Android TV boxes you can plug into your TV, but there are a number of TVs with Android TV built-in. Sony makes a well-reviewed 49-inch TV with Google's software, and you can get a good deal on it today, assuming you want to buy some stuff from Dell. Pick up the TV, and you can get a $300 Dell gift card. The TV (XBR49X900E) retails for $950 most places, and the Dell price is only a few bucks cheaper at $947.99. However, that's not the "deal" part of the deal. Buy that TV from Dell, and you'll get a $300 gift card to use on Dell's store. The code will arrive in your email inbox within 20 days of buying, and you need to use it within 90 days of that.

Like it or hate it, more and more phones are dropping the headphone jack, which means Bluetooth headphones are changing from an optional benefit to a definite requirement as time goes on. For those looking to pick up a pair, Bose's SoundSport Free were one of Android Police's favorite "truly" wireless earbuds late last year, and now you can grab your own for just $199, a savings of $50.There aren't a lot of great truly wireless headphones out there, but the SoundSport Free impressed us a lot in our review. They sound great, with excellent signal reception and a comfortable fit. Other amenities like the Bose Connect+ app and charging case all contributed to the experience, though the headphones aren't without their drawbacks. Most notable among them being poor A/V sync, mediocre membrane-button controls, and middling 3.5-4 hour battery life. And, of course, the original $250 price was a bit steep. That last problem isn't as much of a concern now that the headphones are available for $50 off, though. You even have your choice of retailers, just in case you have a preference. If you've been eyeing a pair of these headphones elsewhere, the odds are they're discounted there as well.
