LineageOS is one of the most popular custom ROMs available, with somewhere around two million active installations. It typically takes a while for the project to update to newer versions of Android, since development is largely done by maintainers in their spare time. Six months after the public release of Android 9 Pie, it looks like LineageOS is about ready to make the jump — but not before dropping older devices.
Cyanogen Inc. may be dying as a company, but the voluntarily-maintained CyanogenMod ROMs are still alive and kicking. Case in point: seven more devices are joining CyanogenMod 14.1, which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat. Six of these Android-powered machines have builds already up, but one doesn't yet.
The Asus ZenPad S 8.0 was, for the most part, a very solid tablet. Now Asus is announcing the latest entry in that line, the ZenPad 3S 10.
The corporate half of the Cyanogen world might have seen better days, but the community-developer ROM is still going strong. They've recently released the CyanogenMod ROM to two new devices. The Huawei Honor 5X and ASUS ZenPad 8.0 have all been given initial nightly builds of CM 13 (based on Android 6.0 code), available to download and flash now.
ASUS' ZenPad S 8 is one of the more interesting Android tablets on the market right now. That isn't a lot to say given how tablet releases seem to have stalled and become a second-thought for most manufacturers, but it doesn't detract from the S 8's nice specs. The tablet, which was released back in July exclusively on Best Buy, has an 8" IPS 2048x1536 display at a 4:3 aspect ratio, a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3530 processor, with a MicroSD slot, USB Type-C connector, Android 5.0, and it usually retails for a very acceptable $199 or $299 depending on the storage and camera configuration. Right now, you can grab it for $30 less on Amazon. The cheaper version packs 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5MP back camera and a 2MP front one. Its price has dropped from $199 to $169 for an equivalent of 15% of savings. The more expensive version has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and an 8MP camera on the back with a 5MP on the front. Its price went down from $299 to $269 (10% off). That doesn't seem like a huge discount on its own, but the tablet is already very adequately priced for its specs, so saving a few tens of dollars makes it more attractive, especially with the gift season upon us. Shipping is free on either model and you get your choice of black, black, or black colors.Source: ZenPad S 8 2GB/32GB, ZenPad S 8 4GB/64GB
