Archos made a rugged 5G phone with a monstrous 8,000mAh battery
Tough on the outside, sleek on the inside
Rugged electronics are usually built with only one thing in mind: an exterior that can withstand extreme pressure and violent conditions. While these devices often cut corners when it comes to the interior, that doesn't seem to be the case for the Archos X67 5G that was released just today. It hides a massive 8000mAh battery and the mid-range Mediatek chip Dimensity 800 in its rugged exterior.
Gigantic tablets are rare in the Android world, but there have been a few — Samsung's 18.4-inch Galaxy View comes to mind. If you want a tablet the average size of a desktop computer monitor, Archos has you covered with its new 'Play Tab.'
ZTE is currently fighting with the US government to lift a trade ban, while federal intelligence committees accuse the company of spying on US consumers. It looks like ZTE might be in even more trouble, as pre-installed malware has been found on several phones from the company. Avast Software has released details about the 'Cosiloon' malware on its blog, which has also been found on devices from Archos, Prestigio, and others.
French tech company Archos is largely known for its budget Android phones and tablets, but it has also been producing mobility devices for the past year (in Europe, at least). In case you ever wanted a scooter running Android, Archos has you covered with its new 'Citee Connect' scooter, which goes on sale this summer for €499.99 (about $617).
Mobile World Congress 2017 is starting in just a few days, and some manufacturers are already releasing new products to get ahead of all the madness that will ensue. Case in point: ARCHOS has just announced two new smartphones, the 50 Graphite and the 55 Graphite, which both pack pretty high-end features inside of budget phones.
Camera company Kodak went bankrupt a while back, but managed to save itself by selling its brand off to anyone who wanted it. Since then, the Kodak name has been pilfered and used to market cheap Android devices. It's a sad state of affairs for the once-great manufacturer, but maybe it's about to get better (or worse, depending on your point of view): ARCHOS has been signed as a brand licensee in Europe, following the release of the Kodak EKTRA smartphone last year.
Archos has kind of fallen off the radar in terms of tablet sales. Maybe it's different in Europe (Archos is a French company), but these days you won't see any of its products on American shelves. And considering the relative paucity of Android tablets in general as of late, that's a shame. Especially when you hear that Archos is making three new tablets at a variety of sizes and, miracle of miracles, they're all running the latest version of Android at launch.
Archos Unveils Two New Low-End Lines, Power And Cobalt, And Gets Them Going With Two New Phones Each
Archos and I have some issues to debate over our definition of the words "power" and "cobalt." The company keeps on churning new devices every couple of months, seemingly content with the sales and reception it's getting by sticking to the low to mid range of the smartphone market. It just unveiled two new lines of devices for CES, named Power and Cobalt, with two new models on each line. However, it's not my understanding that 1900mAh (or 512MB of RAM) equates to power, or that dark grey is synonymous with cobalt. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Despite some interesting tablet hardware in the earlier days of Android, French manufacturer Archos hasn't had anything notable to show for several years. Perhaps that's why the company is jumping into the small but growing niche of ultra-secure cell phones, like the Blackphone and the Turing Phone. Archos has partnered with SIKUR (read: Secure), a vendor of encrypted company-focused communications apps, to create the GranitePhone. It's available to purchase today for a whopping $850.
The French brand Archos is getting ready to announce two new smartphones at IFA 2015. Both follow the company's footsteps in pushing prices down while maintaining an interesting proposition in terms of value, hardware specifications, and build quality.
It's really hard for hardware manufacturers to stand out once CES starts, especially if they're promoting budget devices that don't grab headlines. So those without eye-popping gadgets are starting to announce them earlier and earlier - for example, if Archos hadn't exercised a bit more restraint with this new budget phone and a trio of tablets, it would have technically been a year before its Las Vegas debut. Meet the new Archos 50 Diamond smartphone and three Archos Helium 4G tablets.
Readers may remember Archos' suite of connected home "objects" announced last December and officially detailed at CES. The suite includes a motion-sensitive camera, lights, a weather station, and a Smart Tracker.
Hardware demos don't get much worse than this one. Archos CEO Loic Poirier wanted to demonstrate just how much punishment one of his company's smartphones could take, but he didn't get quite the results he wanted. He was able to drop the phone just fine, but when he placed the device in a glass and filled it with water, apparently the handset had taken all it could handle.
Some companies have made a business out of selling high-quality Android slates at a good price by making the right compromises. Other companies, are Archos. The newest devices from the French tablet maker are the three Neon tablets, the 90 Neon, 97 Neon, and 101 Neon.
The Archos name isn't unheard of around these parts, but while the company has introduced more than a handful of affordable tablets into the market, it isn't the first brand to come to mind when thinking of smartphones. It has produced some before, but they were nothing particularly exciting. Now the company will up its game by rolling out not one but two 4G LTE-capable smartphones at CES next week - the largely identical-looking 45 and 50 Helium.
There are plenty of companies that are working on building you tablets and phones, but only one Android OEM is concerned with "localizing" your dog – Archos. But it's not just your dog that Archos wants to make smarter with a little dash of technology. The device maker has announced an array of connected home devices that will be officially detailed at the upcoming CES event in Las Vegas. There are even going to be some smart watches in the mix, because why not?

ARCHOS Introduces A Tablet For Kids And A New Flagship Phone
ARCHOS has announced its mobile strategy for the remainder of the year, highlighting tablets and smartphones that - hmm, to put this delicately - should appeal to a wide range of users. ARCHOS has been making Android tablets since before most of the major players, so it's typically worth checking out what they have to offer.
Archos Reveals The $200 80 Xenon Tablet: Android 4.1, 8-inch 4:3 Screen, And (Surprise!) A 3G Radio [Update]

Archos has been cultivating a reputation for cheap, mostly reliable tablets since long before Android slates were mainstream. Their latest creation isn't all that remarkable: the 80 Xenon is squarely aimed at the iPad Mini, with an 8-inch, 1024x768 IPS screen, a Qualcom 1.2ghz quad-core (Snapdragon S4?) processor, 1GB of RAM, and a price tag of $199.99. Oh, and it comes with unlocked 3G wireless broadband. Wait, what?
Archos ChefPad Tablet Appeals To The Clumsy Cook Who Is Too Lazy To Search Google Play
