Prepare to mash the System Update button, A100 owners: the promised update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich, or ICS) has apparently been rolling out since yesterday. Word came to us last night from Canadian reader Graham, who provided a handy-dandy picture as proof:
You're probably getting used to OEMs being conveniently vague about dates of Ice Cream Sandwich rollouts. Well, Acer has seen fit to set the record straight and clue everyone into the update schedule for the Iconia Tab A100 and A500 Android tablets. Both devices will begin getting the update on April 27, which is a mere 10 days from now. The A200 got its update way back in February.
Acer tablet owners across the country were elated (well, most of them were, anyway) when Acer announced that Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to the A100 and A500 in April. Thanks to a new leak that made its way to XDA, though, the wait for April just got a lot shorter. Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for both devices landed in their respective forum on XDA earlier today, bringing a taste of Android 4.0 to the duo.
[Update: More Info] Acer America Announces Android 4.0 Update For A500 And A100, Coming In Mid-April
Over the weekend, Acer started pushing the Android 4.0 update to the Iconia Tab A200. Yesterday, Acer ANZ announced that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Iconia Tab A500 would be rolling out in April in Australia and New Zealand. Today, in an attempt to roll a turkey, Acer America followed suit and announced the ICS update for not only the A500, but the A100 along with it:
In our first giveaway of the day (there will be another one a bit later, stay tuned), we're handing out the last of our holiday goodies provided by our pals at NVIDIA. Two lucky winners will be selected, one will get the unique ASUS Eee Pad Slider tablet, and another will receive the new Acer Iconia A100. Both winners will also get a Jambox portable speaker and a $25 AMEX gift card. This is a "lightning giveaway," so you'll have until midnight tomorrow (December 24th) to enter.
If you've been holding out on that Acer Iconia A100 purchase for the price to lower a little more, now might be your chance to pick up a pretty sweet deal from Walmart. Effective from Sunday, August 14th through to Saturday, August 20th, you can grab the tablet for just $328 and get a $50 gift card for free while you're at it. For the mathematically lazy, that effectively makes the price just $278.
The Acer Iconia A500 10.1 inch Honeycomb tablet has been quite a success thanks to its competitive specs and low price tag. Now its little brother, the 7 inch Iconia A100 is available in North America for those who want all the power of Honeycomb in a more pocket-sized shell.
Well it's about bloody time! The last we heard, Acer's Iconia Tab A100 - the little sibling of the larger, 10-inch A500 - was being delayed due to Honeycomb restrictions on 7-inch displays. Fortunately, though, it seems that all of those issues are now firmly in the past for Acer, as Engadget is reporting that the company is readying its tablet for an early August launch, with a suggested retail price of $300.
The Acer Iconia A100 - a 7-inch Honeycomb tablet [unlike the 10" A500... makes sense, right? - Aaron]- was originally slated to hit the market in late May/early June, but has been delayed until August/September due to restrictions with Honeycomb on a 7-inch, 1024*600 display. Honeycomb was designed to take advantage of 10 inch, 1280*800 displays, and according to Digitimes, Google is too busy "resolving other issues" to tend to this little debacle, so Acer had no choice but to delay the device.
