A GoPro is great if you want to record some action shots in wide-angle, but what about when a fisheye lens isn't wide enough? If you want to record your entire surroundings while barreling down the ski slopes, anything less than a 360-degree view just doesn't cut it. Sure, you could jerry-rig 6 GoPros together onto a twelve-hundred-dollar mount, but what if you want to spend a little less than three grand? Read More
Over the past week, IFTTT has added 3 new channels to its hundreds of supported services for smart integrations and automations. Two of them are little known: SURY Assistant and ELA Smart Lighting, but the third one is quite important: Cortana.
Like the Google Assistant and Alexa channels, the new Cortana one has dozens of applets you can instantly try, as well as 4 triggers available: say a specific phrase, say a phrase with number, say a phrase with text, say a phrase with number and text. There are no actions available, so you can't make your Wemo slow cooker for example notify you through Cortana when it's done cooking. Read More
You might recall the sudden death of the Opera Max VPN service from back in August. It turns out that Samsung somehow acquired it, and it's just been re-unveiled as 'Samsung Max.' The Korean company has given the app a new coat of paint, but it's also made the app worse in several respects. Read More
Google has grown increasingly fond of virtual and augmented reality, culminating in its release of the ARCore SDK last year. ARCore was meant to democratize AR, giving more phones the ability to do it without having to rely on extra hardware as in the case of project Tango (which is now dead). Now according to an exclusive report from Variety, Google is planning on pushing hard for AR at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, including the release of v1.0 of ARCore on the Play Store. But the update appears to be rolling out a bit earlier than planned, and we've got our hands on it. Read More
TeamWin Recovery Project, or TWRP for short, is an invaluable tool for anyone looking to mod their device - from installing ROMs to simply making backups. The last time we covered the project earlier this month, it had started supporting the Moto Z2 Force, Redmi 5A, and several other phones.
Since then, a few more devices have been added to the roster, including the Honor View10 and Mate 10 Pro. Read More
It hasn't been 2 months since Google Assistant dominated half the conversation at CES (with Alexa taking the other half) and now it's back again with more announcements and new things for MWC. After Google's teaser that new Android One and Go phones are coming at MWC next week, now we have a new announcement from the Google Assistant team and it's a big one. Some would call it a worldwide one.
First is the news that Google Assistant will be spreading to more languages and locales. From the current 8 languages, it will reach 30 by the end of the year and thus cover 95% of all eligible Android phones worldwide. Read More
A couple of weeks ago, Wacom announced the Bamboo Tip, a fine-tip stylus that had us interested. We've seen several of these "active capacitive" pens before, but they still occupy a rather forgotten category - one that's neither fully active neither as cheap as regular capacitive pens. So to get a better idea of how these pens work and whether or not they're worth the rather hefty price tag, I decided to take the Bamboo Tip for a test drive. I think it works well, but the $49.95 asking price is tough to justify. Read More
Google has begun rolling out the latest update to its signature search app to the beta channel. Version 7.22 appears to be a bit less ambitious than most recent updates, as existing features don't seem to be changing and most of the upcoming features aren't getting any major changes. Actually, most of the teardown is about follow-ups to things we've already known about. Nevertheless, there are new topics to discuss, so let's get right into it. Read More
Back in August, HTC promised that Oreo would come to the U11, U Ultra, and 10. The U11 (and U11 life) have both received their Oreo updates, and the 10 is next in line. The Android 8.0 Oreo OTA is now rolling out to this 2016 flagship, and if you're on the impatient side, you can download the RUU instead. Read More
