ExtendedControls - Power Control On Steroids

Review: Samsung Intercept (Sprint) – Android Hits The Mainstream

Review: Samsung Intercept (Sprint) – Android Hits The Mainstream

A few weeks ago, Samsung was kind enough to send us an Intercept for review. While it may not be of Galaxy S caliber, it’s not intended to be. Rather, it’s more so aimed at the feature phone crowd – those who want something more powerful than a feature phone, but maybe not all the bells and whistles of a high-end smartphone. We spoke (unofficially) with Samsung about what other phones they think people will cross-shop the Intercept to, and they agreed its target is something like the enV Touch.

HTC Android Devices In China To Ship With Android 2.2

HTC Android Devices In China To Ship With Android 2.2

Two days ago, HTC told the world that they were bringing HTC-branded phones to China. Today, word from HTC is that the phones sold in China will ship with FroYo (2.2) – and with Sense to boot. Pretty interesting that the Wildfire and Desire will both be shipping with FroYo, while the rest of the world won’t get the update until “before Christmas.” Bastards.

Video Review Of Samsung Galaxy S Running Android 2.2 Froyo

Video Review Of Samsung Galaxy S Running Android 2.2 Froyo

Yesterday night, a build of Froyo for Galaxy S was leaked by a previously relatively unknown Samsung firmware site Samsung-Firmware.com. Now, keep in mind, while this is an official build that came from Samsung itself, it is only a test version still using an Éclair kernel.

I wouldn't recommend you flash it just yet - instead we can enjoy this 9 minute video preview by the guys from HDBlog.it who already dared to take this ROM out for a spin.

Lookout’s App Genome Project: All Your Data Are Belong To… Somebody Else

Lookout, an organization who produces the eponymously-named Lookout app (a free app to help protect your phone from would-be evil-doers) has come up with some scary data in their App Genome Project. To quote Lookout, the App Genome Project is the:

World’s largest analysis of mobile applications to provide insight into what applications are doing and identify potential mobile threats.

Basically, the App Genome Project is Commissioner Gordon to Lookout’s Batman.

Samsung Galaxy S Strikes Again - Now Available At Three UK

Samsung Galaxy S Strikes Again - Now Available At Three UK

Just in case you thought the Samsung Galaxy S would stop its myriad of launches around the world – the Super AMOLED phone has just become available at Three UK under three different pricing plans.

The three price plans are £35, £38, and £40 a month for two years, with the highest plan (called “The One Plan”) giving you 2000 calling minutes, 5000 texts, and 1 GB of data – something users in the US aren’t really familiar with (Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile all having unlimited data, and AT&T having a max of 2 GB.)

Motorola Will Not Be iBashed - Fires Back At Apple's Death Grip Claim With This Gem

Motorola Will Not Be iBashed - Fires Back At Apple's Death Grip Claim With This Gem

When Apple released a widely criticized video of a Droid X death grip last week, Motorola suddenly found itself as a target of what could essentially be interpreted as a smear campaign. Here is the video for those who managed to miss it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJG7pbSRvJ8

Of course, the video followed a similar smear aimed at HTC's Droid Eris during a recent Apple press conference focused on antennas and reception. Clearly, Apple is not singling anyone out while trying to defend itself.

T-Mobile’s First HSPA+ Phone May Be The myTouch 3G HD

T-Mobile certainly dropped a big hint when the word “Vanguard,” believed to be the codename for the HTC Vision, was discovered all over the source code of their HSPA+ phone teaser page. But, according to a leak from Android Central, this phone might not be the slider we’ve seen before – it could be the next model in the myTouch line.

Called the myTouch 3G HD, the phone appears to have the same button layout as the myTouch 3G Slide, including the Genius Button and trackpad.

Nexus One Never Coming To A T-Mobile Store Near You, Good Luck on Craigslist and eBay

Nexus One Never Coming To A T-Mobile Store Near You, Good Luck on Craigslist and eBay

Tmonews has leaked a T-Mobile retail partner sales FAQ in which it is explicitly states that T-Mobile will never again stock the Nexus One in their retail stores.

nexusonetmo_wm

This would seem to be the last nail in the coffin for the Nexus One’s US tour, though it is still sold abroad in the UK and South Korea. While the document doesn’t explicitly preclude the possibility of online sales, “The Nexus One was sold and marketed by Google” is pretty damning.
