Cyanogen Partners With Smartphone Newcomer WileyFox To Bring Two New Mid-Range Devices To Europe, Africa, And The Middle East

You've probably never heard of a smartphone maker from the UK called WileyFox, and with good reason. The company didn't exist until just recently. This upstart London outfit is releasing two new mid-range smartphones, and they'll be powered by Cyanogen OS. They won't be targeting the Americas, though.

Huawei Announces The Ascend P8 Lite For The US: Slick 5" Design, Dual SIM, And A Snapdragon 615 For $250 Unlocked

No doubt about it, the mid-range market is heating up, even in places where unlocked and contract-free phones have typically undersold. This morning Chinese smartphone maker Huawei announced the Ascend P8 Lite, a new offering for the US that has its sights set on competitors like the Moto G. The $250 phone is available right now from Huawei's online store in black or white, and it doesn't look like the company is interested in selling through conventional carriers.

LG's Low-End G Stylo Comes To Boost Mobile Today For $200, Sprint And Sprint Prepaid Starting In June

The G Stylo is an odd beast: its huge screen and built-in stylus imply a competitor to the Galaxy Note series, but a collection of low-end hardware specs means that it's actually intended for bargain hunters or those on a tight budget. If you're looking to get an interesting phone on the equally cheap Boost Mobile MVNO, you've now got the G Stylo as a choice. Boost is selling the phone for $199.99 without a contract.

Boost's parent company Sprint will also offer the G Stylo, but for some reason it's going to take a little longer to arrive with yellow paint.

HTC Does The Impossible - Creates New Ad More Cringeworthy Than The Hipster Troll Carwash

Do you remember that kid in high school that really wanted to be popular? He wasn't as athletically gifted or as attractive as his friends, and, even with his expensive clothes and his designer (Gorilla) glasses, he just didn't get the attention and respect he felt he deserved. So, what does this guy do to get noticed? He becomes the class clown, the funny guy - Mr. Giggles. Now, a good sense of humor is a perfectly legitimate way to gain social standing and win friends so what's the problem with that? The problem is that this kid's sense of humor is just a little off and his jokes are either not funny, or distastefully inappropriate.

Sony Xperia Z4 Announced In Japan With Snapdragon 810, 1080p 5.2" Screen, IP68 Waterproofing With Cap-Less USB Port, And Sony's Signature Design

Back at MWC, while everyone was waiting for Sony to announce its follow-up flagship, the Xperia Z4, the company decided to keep it under wraps and instead unveiled the mid-range Xperia M4 Aqua and the Xperia Z4 Tablet. Today, the phone has finally been made official in Sony's home turf of Japan during a press conference that made all of the Z4's details public but left out any information regarding its global release or price.

The Xperia Z4 follows the same design as its predecessors, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. The squarish shape, metal frame, and glass back are part of the brand's identity, but at the same time they're iterative and have become boring.

Dell Announces Venue 10, An Education-Focused Tablet That Will Run Lollipop

As part of a series of education-oriented product announcements, Dell is introducing the Venue 10, a Lollipop-enabled Android tablet. The device, which will have a "Pro" sibling that runs Windows 8.1, is set to debut in the spring and will be Google Apps for Education certified. While it will fall short of being a high-end tablet and may not have wide availability, it does have a few cool features.

Dell's release says the Venue 10 line will have "HD or Full HD" 10.1 inch screens, making it unclear whether these will be options or if the 1080p display will apply only to the Pro model.

ASUS Rocks CES With The Low-Price, High-Spec ZenFone 2: 4GB RAM, Lollipop, And Flagship Looks Starting At $199

Despite some impressive tablet, laptop, and combination devices, ASUS has left its smartphones mostly in the budget and mid-range end of the pool. That changes with the Zenfone 2 announcement at CES: while the new device probably won't set the world on fire, it's a definite competitor to offerings from the likes of HTC, Samsung, and LG at an amazing price. The ZenFone 2 is the first phone anywhere to be equipped with 4GB of dual-channel RAM (on the high-end model), and the rest of the specs are no slouch either.

The phone is impressively styled, with a brushed metal body that tapers to just 3.9mm on the edges, not unlike the Moto X.

Huawei Begins To Sell Directly To US Consumers With The Ascend Mate 2, Now Up For Pre-Order For $299

Huawei is huge in China, but their footprint in the US smartphone market is tiny, and not helped because they tend to be on the low end of any carrier lineup they do manage to snag. That ends today, as the company is now selling directly to consumers in the United States for the first time. The Ascend Mate 2, a big-screen, big-battery midrange phone, is up for pre-order on GetHuawei.com. The unlocked GSM-LTE phone is going for $299 in black and white color options.

For three Benjamins, you get a phone with a gigantic 6.1" screen, a 3900mAh battery (down slightly from the one at CES) rated at 25 hours of talk time, a 13 megapixel rear camera with a 5MP front-facing cam, and...

LG Volt Zaps Its Way Onto Boost Mobile And Virgin Mobile For $179.99

The LG Volt, as a low cost phone destined to be sold with no contract, is shocking more in the static electricity way than, say, a bolt of lighting. But in the moment immediately following touching a doorknob after dragging your feet around too much on the carpet, who really cares? At $179.99, the Volt should hit a number of users with enough juice to keep them going starting today on Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile.

The phone, which is a rebranded LG F90, offers a 1.2ghz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.7-inch IPS display, an 8MP rear-facing camera, and a 1.3MP front-facing one.

[MWC 2014] ZTE Shows Off The Grand Memo II LTE: Bigger, Thinner, With A Side Of KitKat

The phablet market is exploding, and just about every manufacturer wants a piece of the oversized pie. Here at Mobile World Congress ZTE has just announced the Grand Memo II LTE, the successor to last year's Grand Memo. It ups the screen size to a full 6 inches of IPS goodness. Well, maybe goodness  - they aren't saying what the resolution is just yet, just "HD," which I'll assume means 720p.

The phone itself is impressively thin, even accounting for the fact that larger phones have more surface area to cram all those guts in. At just 7.2mm, it's as thin as some of the phones aimed at fashionistas.
