LineageOS turns one year old

CyanogenMod was the most popular custom ROM for years, with many other major ROMs being based on CM. However, the project came to an abrupt end last year, when Cyanogen Inc shut down (it reorganized into an autonomous tech company earlier this year). Most of the CyanogenMod community, which never received much support from Cyanogen Inc in the first place, reorganized under the 'Lineage' name.

Meet the new guy: Jason Hahn

Season’s greetings. I’ve been hanging around for the past two months, so it seems time for a proper introduction: My name is Jason, obviously. I currently work in a corporate communications role during the week and enjoy the privilege of writing for this site Saturday and Sunday mornings. Some of my earliest memories of technology involve an IBM PS/2 and a Robie Junior. What brings me here is my fondness for the world of Android, which began when I soft-bricked my Nexus 5 in January 2014.

Nokia 9 passes through FCC with 5.5" OLED display, 3,250mAh battery, and Android 8.0

Over the course of the past year, HMD Global has released a variety of smartphones under the Nokia brand. The mid-range Nokia 6 was first, followed by the lower-end 5 and 3. Then a flagship phone, the Nokia 8, was released. It seemed like HMD's lineup was complete, but apparently not.

A 'Nokia 9' has been in the rumor mill for a while, with a few details occasionally cropping up. Back in October, OnLeaks (working with Indian site CompareRaja) showed off a 3D render of the Nokia 9. FCC documents for the phone have now been published online, and they reveal some of the phone's specifications.

uBreakiFix is Google's exclusive after-sales support partner for Pixelbooks in US and Canada

The Pixelbook is a good-looking laptop, but it's also an expensive one - not just for a Chromebook, but for a laptop in general. With prices maxing out at $1649, it'd really suck to have to try and find a repair outlet for this niche device. But just as it did for the Pixel and Pixel 2, Google has teamed up with repair chain uBreakiFix to offer exclusive after-sales support in the US and Canada.

Nokia 8 review: Nokia looks and Nexus feel make for a very enjoyable experience

Confused nostalgia. It's hard to find another way to describe my feeling right now as I sit down to write this Nokia 8 review. For those who don't know my history, my career covering mobile devices started with a personal blog in 2006 and a Nokia 3250 XpressMusic. For several years, I was Dotsisx (.sisx), a nickname that evokes how much I was involved with the Symbian OS. I reviewed phones, I covered events, I spent hours daily looking for the best apps and games. Even when the first iPhone launched and Android started making waves, I was a Symbian user through and through.

TWRP now supports Galaxy A3 Duos, ASUS Zenfone 4 Max, and more

TWRP is still the best custom recovery available, giving Android users a better way to flash ROMs and back up their devices. Part of the reason it's so great is that can be ported to new devices fairly easily. Since we last covered the project earlier this month, a few more phones have been added to the roster.
