The Nexus One became available for sale on January 5th. The Nexus One Desktop Dock accessory was on sale a little over 3 weeks later, on January 27th. Finally on April 6th, almost exactly 4 months after the release of the phone, Google has announced that the car dock is available for purchase.
We were teased with glimpses of the car dock in Google’s Nexus One video series ‘The Story’, specifically in the 5th video titled ‘Day One’ (embedded below). Read More
The EVO 4G news is continuing to roll in, though I’m using the term ‘news’ loosely. Engadget is reporting today that Sprint’s upper management is talking about a potential June 6th or 13th launch date, with the 13th seeming more likely to get some hot 4G action.
Engadget is definitely one of the more trustworthy gadget blogs out there right now, but they can only peg this information on ‘intel’, so at this point it does not appear that anything is set in stone. Read More
We just saw a leaked photo coming from Radio Shack’s Direct2U system showing what appears to be the rumored MyTouch Slide. If you are unfamiliar with what the MyTouch Slide is, rumor has it that it will be the G1’s successor for T-Mobile.
This is the photo, posted back in January, of what has been rumored to be the MyTouch Slide. I already have my reservations in regards to anything I own being named ‘MyTouch’, and I think the addition of ‘Slide’ to the name does not help much. Read More
A rumor is floating around, started by an alleged BestBuy employee, about BestBuy starting EVO 4G preorders within a couple of weeks, possibly starting on April 16th.
The rumor comes from gstill4, an AndroidCentral forum member, who posted this last night at 11PM:
I work at best buy and I got info today that best buy mobile is about to get ready to take pre-orders within a couple weeks and it could possibly start on april 16th
We were already expecting BestBuy to start preorders for the EVO 4G sometime soon, and this only reassures our expectations, whether gstill4 is credible or not. Read More
Two weeks ago we broke the story about a big milestone for Google: 40,000 applications were now available for the Android operating system, at least according to AndroLib which tracks Android applications across several app markets, including the main Android Market.
Google's Application Approval Policies
However, there has been increasing criticism of Google's poor handling of application publishing due to relaxed restrictions and lenient app approval policies. On the other end of the spectrum, Apple has gotten a plethora of bad press about their own overly harsh and oftentimes subjective process. Read More
As you may have heard, LG has big plans for a little Android smartphone called Eclipse/LU2300. The company has not really done a whole lot with Android thus far, so it’s good to see them starting to make a serious smartphone that runs Android.
Two things that you will want to know, especially if you are a G1 owner and love the physical keyboard are:
- this phone includes a Snapdragon processor and
- it sports a physical keyboard
Yet Another Custom UI
However, what you will want to punch yourself in the nose about is the fact that LG seems to be yet another custom UI of their own on top of Android which looks a whole lot like the Sense UI by HTC, except it uses more fruity, psychedelic, bright colors (I believe the term for their shade of blue is "cupcake blue" or "there-goes-my-manhood-blue"). Engadget's Vlad Savov just announced a new Android tablet called Gemini by ICD (Innovative Converged Devices), seemingly out of nowhere - Google searches do not bring up anything but Engadget's own post - it looks like they have an exclusive here. I hate using the term "###### killer", so I will not be calling it an iPad killer. However, it is going to give Apple a run for its money.
ICD Gemini Tablet
Gemini has beautiful 11.2" screen, compared to iPad's 9.7" - a whole 1.5" larger diagonally. Read More
A few days ago on April 2nd, a forum poster by the name of KansasCityJoe turned up at AndroidCentral.com forums out of nowhere and suggested he had a pre-release version of Android 2.1 on a Samsung Moment. KansasCityJoe, being a busy urban dude, has not posted any evidence, however, and other forum readers quickly called him out on it.
Fast forward 3 days to today and what do you know - Joe posted 7 pictures, indeed showing the Moment running Android 2.1. Read More
