December Pixel updates land: 2016 Pixels get last patches, Pixel 4 conspicuously absent (Update: Image and OTA downloads)

December's monthly security patches are here for Google's Pixel phones — or, at least, most of them. While the 2016 Pixels are getting what Google previously claimed would be their very last update after the two phones missed November's patches, the Pixel 4 and 4 XL are curiously late to the party, with no images posted just yet. Most confusingly, though, Google is apparently breaking out its Pixel-specific functional patch notes this month, which often describe useful or noteworthy feature changes and tweaks.

Pixelbook Go review: Google’s cheap laptop is too expensive (Update: Two weeks later)

In 2013, Google released the Chromebook Pixel, a beautiful, weird, unabashedly high-end device meant to show other manufacturers what Chrome OS could do with more power than it needed. Google nerds were into it, but it didn't have much impact on the greater Chrome landscape. Following a 2015 hardware refresh and 2017's similarly pricey convertible Pixelbook, Google tried and failed to catch more mainstream attention with last year's Pixel Slate, an overpriced, badly-optimized two-in-one that sold so poorly the company actually gave up on making tablets. This year, Google is taking a different tack in trying to sell to normal people with the Pixelbook Go, a regular ol' Chrome OS laptop with regular ol' specs, starting at $650.

Google's November patches out: First update for Pixel 4, 2016 Pixels left behind

Monthly security patches for November 2019 are out for Google's Pixels — including the latest Pixel 4 and 4 XL. This marks the first major monthly update for the pair of phones, and they're getting a few fixes with it, too. In addition to the generally enhanced security, the Pixel 4 and 4 XL are getting some camera tweaks and improvements to Smooth Display, likely tied to previous oddities observed in the feature.

Google Pixel 4 vs Pixel 3: What's new?

At its big annual hardware event on October 15, Google unveiled its latest flagship phones alongside a new Nest Mini speaker, a Nest Wifi update, the Pixelbook Go, and a second-generation pair of Pixel Buds (no wires, finally) that don't actually launch until spring next year. The Pixel 4 and 4 XL have a lot going for them, even if the battery life is more than a little concerning. You can learn more about that by reading our full review, but if you're wondering exactly what's changed since last year's Pixel 3, you're in the right place.

[Update: Sold out again] 64GB Pixel 4 and 4 XL are already $99 off at Amazon — no store credit or gift card

The Pixel 4 launched on a bevy of retailers with a bunch of offers — including $100 in-store gift cards for those who were willing to commit to a pre-order on the spot. Amazon, however, has apparently decided to forego the discount and just offer $99 off list price on a few Pixel 4 models.
