Crowd Favorite To-Do List Astrid Gets A Big Update: Interface Overhaul, Tablet UI, Subtasks And More

Astrid has been one of the most popular To-Do list apps for Android for years. Today it's getting a facelift and a few extra features. Most notably, Astrid now has a spiffy tablet UI. Making use of the Fragments API, Astrid lays out your Lists panel, your individual tasks, and details on each individual task for easy access. Like so:

Simple, straightforward, and easy. The new UI is being added to more than just tablets, though.

[Updated] Motorola Announces "Developer Edition" RAZR With Unlockable Bootloader Headed To Europe And Another Unlockable Device For The U.S. Soon

Motorola announced today through its official community blog that a RAZR "Developer Edition" (evidently based on the original Droid RAZR, not its newer MAXX counterpart) is in the works. The dev-friendly device will carry an unlockable bootloader and is poised to hit European markets relatively soon, with a (yet unspecified) unlockable device bound for the U.S. "in the coming months." Oddly enough, the blog post was pulled (perhaps it was published prematurely; Update: it's live once again), but luckily the text of the post has been retained:

New Motorola RAZR™ Developer Edition will feature unlocked bootloader in Europe

We have some news for the community of people interested in unlockable/relockable bootloaders.

Steve Jobs, 56, Co-Founder Of Apple Computer, Has Died

Steve Jobs was not Apple. Steve Jobs was an inventor. Steve Jobs was probably the single greatest inventor to grace the world since Thomas Edison or Nikola Tesla.

The personal computer and the smartphone were "telegraph" and "light bulb" moments that forever transformed our world and will only continue to do so. While Steve Jobs was not the only (or even first) person to make these inventions a reality, he will rightly be remembered as the man who truly revolutionized and brought them to ordinary people.

[Giant Giveaway #5] Win A Free Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 From Android Police And Simply Applied

Another week, another giveaway. This time we're giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (16GB, Wi-Fi) courtesy of Simply Applied - developers of the apps Sign and CritiCall.

Sign is a gesture-based texting and dialing application, allowing you to associate a drawn figure with calling or texting a particular contact. CritiCall is another handy app, one that I'm considering buying now that I've taken a look at it. While your phone is on silent mode, it allows phone calls and texts from pre-selected contacts to override silent and play ringtones and notifications normally.

The 5 Best Android Phones Under $60 (US Only) - July 2011

I know, I know. The last one was under $50, and preferably free. But in our attempt to keep you updated with the latest and greatest deals on the latest and greatest devices, we had to make sacrifices. Fortunately, that means there are also no repeat appearances from last month's post, though you should still check it out - a lot of those handsets (aside from the DROID 2) are still viable choices.

[Giant Giveaway #4] Win A Free Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 From Android Police And Thumb Keyboard For Doing Close To Nothing

In the past few months, we have been giving away various devices in what I dubbed the "Giant Giveaway" series. Despite having given away 3 tablets (the XOOM, the G-Slate, and the Tab 10.1) already, we're not planning on slowing down; in fact, we're going to accelerate the giveaway process. Rather than keep the giveaways open for 2 weeks, we're going to run them for only about 5-7 days instead, as otherwise our shelves will collapse under the weight of all the goodies and ruin them, and we don't want that, do we?
